Technical Question on Servo's

I have one of the HV robots, 10.8V...

If I wanted to run another make of servo alongside these, for example a micro servo in a DOF that didnt need the high torque, would it work if I rerouted the Supply(Red) from a 5V regulated supply instead but still pick up the PWM and Ground from the original place???

Hi Paul,

I'm certainly no expert on servos, but I have connected them as the diagram shows. I was running the servo at 9Vdc instead of the 4.8 from the receiver. This was in a small robot with the servos modified for continuous rotation.

I see no reason it wouldn't work going the other direction with the voltage.

Thats more or less what I want to achieve, I've seen some Hitec HS55's going cheap and they are the ideal size for what I want to do.

Thanx for that...

PaulP,

The only critical thing that you need to ensure is that the two power sources (logic supplying the signal, and power for the servo) have a common ground.

Thanx Jon

Again, thats what I'd been thinking but good to have someone confirm it.

I was fairly certain that the 5.0V is used to supply the circuitry while the signal is just interpreted for the movement required etc.... From my observations with a scope, the PWM seemed to be around the 5V level even though the voltage was up at 10.8

Hopefully what I want to achieve should be do-able. I'll order the servo's and start chopping early in the week.
