Limor

Not sure how easy or hard this would be, but what would be slick is I see on the left Who's Online, to be able to click on the user and invite to chat (where they would see a message up on the Profile line, when they are browsing - maybe a box that comes up red saying (<x> has invited you to the chat room - maybe some kind of sound like a doorbell plays as well). That way as peole are browsing on the forum, they could see chat invites

I always see a few people online, but I find myself as well, I just browse around the forum I rarely go into the chat. Not sure if this is possible, but it may help out getting people together in a chat room.

I'd love that. I would really like to chat with some of you.

EDIT: Perhaps a different chat system should be used? I've heard good things about Meebo...

I've looked into it and there are a couple of phpbb mods that I like and one will be installed sometime soon. The mods use AJAX to refresh a forum thread every 5 seconds. so in effect such a thread would looks like chat.

my concern with other 3rd party hosted flash embedded chat solutions like the one you get when you press the "Join Chat" link on the left, is that the chat history disappears. The main asset of this forum is the browsable and searchable content of the forum's discussions.

That's an interesting idea. I'm not sure how well it would work as a chat, however...

Also, I'm bored, someone go on the chat with me. :D
