iHobby 2007, Robot Event

Hey, who's all going to iHobby 2007?

So far me (Scotty Rippel) and Matt Bauer are going.

I'm only going on Sunday (maybe Saturday too, but I don't think so).

I'll bring 1 Lego Mindstorms RCX 1.5 robot, and 1 Lego Mindstorms NXT robot (and if I get any others I'll bring them too).

Map Quest says that the convention center is 533 miles from my house which is about a 9 hour drive. Will it be worth my time to drive up for the weekend?

It all depends on how crazy you are.

I'll be on the road for 6 hours one way.

This year there will be much more robot events and boths then any other year in the past.

Entry fee to get into iHobby should be around $10 USD per person, but don't hold be to it.

I am going. I am try to find where the three Humanoid events are listed for that weekend. I found the rules which are just like the robogames which is cool. That means I just have to improve the programs that I have now. I just need to know if they are having the Humanoid events and is anyone else signed up for them?

Join the Chibots Yahoo Group, and maybe they can help (they are the ones who are going to put the events on).

You could sign up for the event(s) that your robot wants to do, and see if any other robots sign up (knowing Royce he won't hold you to it).

To sign up for an event you must be a member of chibots.org (that does not mean a member of Chibots).

There should also be Combat robot sign up soon.

This is going to be a ton of fun, robot companies showing off new products like RoboPhilo, robot events, the R/C world stuff like batteries, motors, 2.4 GHz radios, and just so much other stuff!!!!

Maybe us robot builders could hang out together some place.

I'm looking at driving in from Detroit, probably there and back in the same day...what's 10 hours in the car right?

Which day are most of you planning on going? Also, which day are the Chibots events, yeah I know I could look at the site but I'm posting on the run to a meeting, Plus it's probably good info to have in this thread anyhow.

Yes, robot day is Sunday, October 21, 2007 from 8 AM - 5 PM (you can stay as long as you want).

If I where do guess, I would say most companies with robots will show off their R/C stuff on Saterday, and their robot stuff on Sunday, because most of the robot builders will be there then.

We need a meeting place on Sat. or Sunday.

I was talking to Matt Bauer about this, we did not come to any conclusion, but I was thinking maybe when it gets closer we could decide on a table in the food area. Or since most of us will be in the robot event area we could find each other and set up a place then.

Matt Bauer will be there with his, I'll be there with two of mine, David Calkins will be there hopefully with two of his, Scotty sounds like he'll be there, a fellow named Mike O. registered as well. I imagine a few more will turn up besides.

If you'd like to come and compete with us we'd love to have you there! Hit the Chibots website, make an account, make a profile for your robots and register them!

The site is brand new so that is why the usage is sorta light. It will take our members a while to get used to it. Even if you don't register, feel free to turn up and we'll try to work you into the contest if we are able.

Hey Everyone,

Sunday is drawing near. I'm planning on being there around 10am, just can't bear to leave Detroit much earlier than 5am, and kids prevent an overnight....so, should we try to plan a meetup time/location?

If anyone is interested, I have a conference call line at my disposal and would be happy to host a "planning call" tonight or tomorrow. We can all jump on the call and make a plan, swap cell numbers, or whatever to help us all meet up.

I know I'm not super active, and not many of you know me, but I'd love to meet up with you all, I've have interaction with many of you, helping answer my questions and offering advice and I'd love to shake your hands, and just have a great time.

PM is so-so on this site it seems, so if you're interested please just send me an e-mail at mlampcov@comcast.net (mlampcov at comcast dot net) and i'll email you the info for the conference call.

I'm thinking tonight at 10PM Eastern? Let me know if that time works, or suggest and alternate. Anyone who wants to jump on just to say Hi is welcome. Though the time will be bad I do have free international dial-in numbers if you're up for it.

Matt Bauer and I have entered robots, so you should find us around the Chibots both at those times.

Matt is in Humanoid events, and I'm in Lego Sumo, and Line Following.

The call time won't work for me, but tell me what you work out, or if you want just find me at iHobby.

I should be easy to find, look for a Laptop with a RIBO-Labs desktop, or ask around Chibotica for "Scotty", or find the geek with the name tag "Scotty Ripel" (it should have been "Scotty Rippel", so if I can change it look for that name).
