My local Honda dealer is running a ad in the newspaper that says:

World's only bi-pedal humanoid robot.

Asimo is the world's only bi-pedal humanoid robot capable of climbing and descending stairs, walking forward and backward, turning smoothly without pausing, and maintaining balance while walking on uneven slopes and surfaces.

I am not sure if this is a true claim!

It's not true just look at all the bipeds at robo one.

What they mean to say is it's the only biped that is that big and design and built by a company. I don't think university and hobbiest exist on there radar.

It's PR hype, probably written by the car dealer. There are certainly ROBO-ONE robots capable of the description. OmniZero and Dynamizer come immediately to mind. And even Asimo size or larger robots like HRP-2 can do it as well.

Asimo is great - no question - and can do some things better than other similar humanoid robot projects. It's 'running' is really sweet. I put 'running' in quotes because some people would argue that it doesn't do a true human-type run - but only because they've never watched how many of the Japanese here run.

Nevertheless, Asimo isn't the "world's only" by a long shot.

I would agree but my e-mail pointing out these facts, which I sent to the car dealer has gone unanswered.

There's numerous biped humanoid robots in the world! I think someone got carried away on the ad. Can you post a photo of the ad? It would be interesting to see it.
