Robonova-1 without question. I have been impressed by the Kondo KHR-1HV. But If I was buying a new robot, I would buy a Manoi AT01.

I already have a 1HV and the AT01 is allot like the 1HV. I want to get something just for fun. Something I can use as a beater and experiment on...lol The Robonova and Bioloid are fairly inexpensive and I wouldn't be leary about tweaking and moding them. The biolid can be made into different bots and tweaked. The Robonova is cool also, I wouldn't mind making a transformer bot like Mat Bauer did and it has allot of room for sensors. So I'm not sure what one I like the best.

The Hitec people at I-hobby-expo said that they where coming out with a line of sensors and a PS2 style remote controll for the RN. If that helps you any.

I would have to say.....even though I hate to the RN-1 will be better but instead of buying the kit maybe buy the pieces separately so you can upgrade to the new-er-ish servos for hip and arms rotation

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

My complaint about the RN-1 is that Hitec's servos are so 20th-century (not daisy chainable or serially addressable, etc.). They're also darned expensive for their strength — last time I looked, it cost over $100 to get a Hitec digital servo with torque comparable to a $45 Robotis AX-12. Though I do prefer the shape of the Hitec (and other standard hobby) servos over the thicker Bioloid ones.

So, while it seems like the RN-1 is slight bit more capable than the Bioloid (nobody can get the Bioloid to do a cartwheel for example), the Bioloid seems like a better way to go for future expansion.

For a beater robot, I'm leaning towards the Robophilo, which should be out in the next couple of weeks.

My $0.02,

I have both and always find it hard to compare them. I think they are very different. Here's my opinion:

If you want a full fuctional biped robot with huge community support and lots of people moding etc definately the RN-1, a great biped for entry level user.

If you want a robotics experimentation kit that can be used to build hundreds of different robots, from static simple gates to complex wheeled and multi legged devices (and even a biped lol) then go Bioloid.

I really think they are too different to compare. I think both are great but they are not the same.

Anyway thats my humble opinion
