It's definitely similar.

Medabots ("Medarot" in Japan) was just one of many, perhaps 30+, similar series that were broadcast on Japanese television over several decades. Actually Medabots was a late comer since it originally aired 1999-2000 with around 90 or so episodes. If you go to a karaoke studio here they have the opening theme songs for most of them and my robo-fanatic friends sometimes try to sing them all. :lol:
