Yes, I think Deckard is meant to be a replicant, but there is not difference its an unjust label, an excuse for slavery. The label reduces the person (replicant -skin job) to an object, something easy easier to "terminate", the intro used the word "retirement".
Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave!
Yes they are psychotic killing machines, However they are conscious, sentient beings, driven to psychosis by their intolerable predicament. The character Tyrell was immoral to design a conscious, sentient being to be a killer or compound this by adding an off switch. Tyrell said of Rachael:
Commerce is our goal here at Tyrell. "More human than human" is our motto. Rachael is an experiment. Nothing more.
