Its a very nice machine, but if you look at the movement, they rely on the ground touching segments expanding and contracting. On a rough surface, this would result in the movements catching on every stone/undulation on the surface.

Much better would be if they could add a wheel to each node and run it over the surface, using the morphing structure to get round/over obstacles.

A bit more like their simulation below where the ground touching elements do not change size.
