check out this video towards the second half he actually jumps.
the structure was constructed by bostondynamics and the control was done in MIT.

"The aim of the quadruped Little Dog project is to combine methods in optimal control and reinforcement learning in order to create a system that reliably achieves legged locomotion over rough terrain in spite of noisy and unstructured environments."

The dog throws his legs forward in order to get forward thrust to pull him up the stairs while retracting his back legs. All this while his center of mass seems to gain a bit of height but not much. Jumping up means center of mass gets positive up speed while the legs are stretched.
I wonder if this kind of quad bot jump can be done with the Bioloid or Robobuilder kit..

i was wondering the same, i see more and more bioloid IK quads appear, with some good leg design it should be possible, maybe a sensor module on each foot and it could 'auto balance' similar to this littledog
