A major part of the fun is actually building kit into a robot.. it would make sense though to have these expensive hobby robots pre-assembled if the intention is to use them for media applications. no one has expressed interest so far.

serial (RS232,I2C etc.) is an easy simple means of electronic communications and is perfect for a robotic hobbyist. using USB is
not that difficultbut one day when this market matures, other communication interfaces and protocols will be used that will be tailored to robotic applications to be.
