Blocking forum spammers

Hello,

Though I don't post a lot, waiting to have something that I can show off, I like very much reading this forum (especially in custom built section), and lately, my pleasure is dminished by a couple of shoe spammers.
Would it be possible to set up some counter-measures against those?
->deleting their account?
->ban-list?
->captcha verification on account creation and or posting?

They don't seem to understand that people are not really visiting a robot forum to find shoes... but they remain an annoyance and mask the new post with their spam.

Cheers,

Stéphane

Yes I agree - please do something to help reduce the spam. There is more and more on this site everyday.

The problem is really, really apparent on the RSS feed. The site moderators do a good job in removing the spam from the forums - but they are never removed from the RSS feed. The RSS feed is becoming almost unusable now.

Sorry guys, as a moderator I only have ability to delete posts as I find them from the forums. I am not always able to be there to beat them to the RSS feed.

I know Limor has plans to make better control, and hope he does before you and I get too pissed off.

I would love the power to delete these slime balls. Have seen other forums have complaints about restrictions on new users ( delay before allowing URL in posts etc.), but maybe the time has come.

The spam appears to be customised and human generated, so Robosavvy is a victim of its own ( OUR own) success. I see Sparkfun is only now being hit as hard since they did there big giveaway last week !

If you want to help, make more posts, about anything robotic !. Will help motivate me and others clearing up the crap !

Cheers

Hi

We now have a tool in place to better help moderate the forum and automatically add offenders to the BAN list.

We are still testing it and should be passing control of it to other forum moderators in the next days.

Regards
Pedro.
