I'd look to bring both my Bioloid and RN-1, and if anyone is interested I would also be prepared to arrange at least one competition, perhaps something like a variation on the "Kick the Can" event shown on Robots Dreams

Would it be a mere meeting or should we carry some stuff ?

I'm not comin' empty-handed. From the responses here, I'd say setting up a fun little event wouldn't be unrealistic. Wow, what fun this is gonna' be!

oh man a robo one type event i could actually attend with all the robosavvy posters!? count me in

I can't wait to meet all of you either. :D

My wife and I talked it over last night, and (unless things chage) we probably shouldn't go to the UK until after Christmas, so I might have to catch you all at the "2nd Robo-One UK" event depending on when it's scheduled.

Oh, for sure. I mean, it doesn't even have to be "serious" at all. Like at the Robot Carnival... it was more about laughs and good times than having any stress or pride get in the way.

Responses sound encouraging!

So, a weekend sometime swapping a few ideas and a few basic competitions or challenges? Sounds like a plan!

Anyone want to throw up some dates, places and ideas for challenges?

I would say from the responce that it should be in london.

As stated I can come most weekends, and I will just stay with a friend.

If someone that lives in london wants to make a recommendation were to meet, I think in a good pub or some other place where we could take over a corner and have some beers.

If we're bringing our robots, maybe the pub isn't the best option?!!?

OK so this looks like it could be more than an idea.

#1 Shall i start looking for a venue in or around London and the home counties.
#2 Do we want to look at this side of Xmas or would it be to tight to organise realistically between now and then ????
#3 A carpet or hard floor venue,if hard would we need mats etc.

if i looked at a conference suite in a travel lodge or equivalent then maybe that would help guys/girls that are travelling and we can then all meet up in the eve for beers etc ?

I would say early dec.

I would say around ten people would attend so something of that size not sure about a conference room abit sterile. But we sould get on it.

should be fun, I will have to get my robot doing some killer death moves for the first UK robo one event

I have to admit I would go for early jan but will fit in with everyone else as I don't intend to miss out on this. Ten people would be great but lets work on the more the merrier (within reason, and if we get 10 I think that will be a total success).

As for the venue I would go for somewhere around london/home counties and would go for a room with a wooden floor rather than carpet although I am happy to sort out some panels for the floor like at the Japanese events.

Can't wait

Sounds like this could have potential! I'm living in New York, but I was born and raised in Blighty and visit my folks a couple of times a year, so with enough advanced notice I could perhaps swing a trip around the date. Before/around/just after Christmas is out for me this year though due to a Honeymoon in Jamaica and a potential business trip to Dubai, so don't factor me into this one, but like Matt said, the "2nd Robo-One UK" could be for me!

After looking through my diary I would say at the end of the month I'm busy until the 19/1 so any time after that.

the advantage of after xmas is that hopefully our over halfs might get some good toy that we could show off at the meet.

So what about the weekend of the 27-28 of Jan.

Any one got a idea of a good place yet.

On a side note about the floor - as look as it's not long carpet we should be fine most commercial places use that hard carpet anyway.

What about trying to do it in collaboration with an academic institution such as Imperial College ?
(check out the humanoid at http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/research/ )

Maybe they would be interested in hosting a small humanoid robotics event.
