Car battery charger for power supply.

My car battery charger can switch from 12 volts to 6 volts and supplies 1.5 amps. I measured the Voltage at 6.7 out of the charger. Can anybody think of a reason I should not use the charger to power the robot?

I am afraid 1,5Amps might not be enough to manage all servos at the same time at any moment. Just check current in the battery leads prior to use you car adapter with the robot. You might find that current may be pretty high at times.

Because of this they can ruin your rcb-1 controllers!
The robot needs at least 5 amps for good operation.
Digital servo's can use up as much as 1 amp each when under stress!
I use a 7Amps variable voltage (5 to 24v) laptop powersupply.
Very light and small device. Got it from an electronic components shop.

Meltdown, which ower supply do you use exactly ? I am getting tired of replacing batteries all the time.:-(

choose AC to DC switching adapter series.
Look at model AM0179.
That's the one i use.

It's a perfect unit, extremely light and small but powerful (7amps) and because of the switchable voltage (5 to 24v in 1v increments)
you can use it with virtually anything.
And it detects AC 100v to 240v automatically so it doesn't matter where you live.

Have you guys thought of getting battery chargers made for RC aircraft? I fly radio controlled helicopters. I use a Duratrax Ice charger. it can charge nicd, nimh, lipo and li-ion batterys. not only can it do all of that but it can supply a cc-cv (constant current-constant voltage) for breaking in a motor (or powering a robot). very versatile.... ( I can't spell I know.....)
