I like the smaller size of the COM boards from Compulab, but I can't find anywhere to order small quantities. Only option would be to order a dev kit, and they don't have any way to order online. On top of that, the Compulab boards use two high density connectors for which a custom board would have to be made. The 4gb NAND flash is cool, as well as I2C / SPI and such depending on the model.

These kinds of boards are getting there. There are some embedded boards with dual cores, but they haven't shrunk them down enough to be viable for our small bipedal bots yet.

the com boards usually need a carrier board that are more big and and are not suitable for bipeds robots and are more expensive than other of the same size

The Toradex Topaz / xiilun (cased version) seems more like what I'm looking for: thin, and no bigger than 96mm x 56mm such as with the RB-100. Most of these boards end up fairly thick, the Kontron board I posted the link to has a memory card slot underneath, then the jacks and CMOS battery carrier board on top. It's tough to find something (or piece something together) with same / smaller dimensions than the RB-100, but I know at some point I'm going to want more CPU speed.

I wonder when they'll actually release the Toradex Topaz...

I ended up ordering the Kontron PicoITX SP. I did a lot of searching, and this board seems to fit best. I ordered 2gb SODIMM to go with it. The memory is on backorder, so I haven't received the board yet (told them to hold the order until everything is available).

Processing power and power consumption tend to go hand-in-hand. There are other, faster boards out there, but they need bigger and bigger heatsinks and cooling solutions, and they kill amp-hours much more quickly. I believe this is the best solution for a 2S LiPo, small-size robot.

Another nice thing about this board compared to others is that it only needs 5v. Many SBC's need 12v.

The best news it that this board will be able to handle text-to-speech and voice recognition better than the RB-100. Unfortunately, the price is a good bit more than the Roboards: around $600 USD (and over 4x performance! Not bad for about twice the cost, I think).

Processor speed should be considerably faster than Roboard according to DMP's bench tests.
