Just wanted to announce that Hitec Robotics is hosting a humanoid robotics competition in the US. After the resounding success of the Hitec Cup in Japan this past weekend, it's time for a US competition.

The event is taking place in April during the Electric Flight Exposition and is open to all humanoid robots under 3kg of weight.

For more information about the location, go to http://www.efexpo.com. Information on the rules and registration is located on the Hitec Robotics website.

Cool, I want to go. It is two months before Robogames. So I should be able to budget both events, hopefully! Is Phoenix a expensive place to go to?

Using map quest I found out that the stadium is 1274.49 miles or about 19 and half hours from my house! I think that flying is the only way to go for me. Of the three competitions the Robo mission looks to be the hardest of all three by far. I may try to build the obstacle course to test out my robot before hand!

I haven't been to Glendale myself, but I have stayed in Phoenix before. Not too expensive. There are two hotels right next to the stadium.

This might offset the cost some: Hitec is offering cash prizes for the top three points winners.
1st: $500
2nd:$300
3rd: $200

Of the three competitions the Robo mission looks to be the hardest of all three by far.

Of the three this will be the most challenging. The idea is to see how far robots/builders can get through the course in 5min. Points will be awarded for each obstacle passed and time completed. If you don't complete it, no sweat, you still get the points for each obstacle.

The points from each of the events will be tallied on the final day and the top three robots get the trophies and prizes. There will be other awards throughout the competition also.

Do you race with another robot in the robo mission? If so how do you stop the two robots from getting in each others way?

Yep, two robots will race at the same time. The course should be large enough (a little over 1m) that they shouldn't interferre with each other.

Is anyone else even thinking about going? I have been looking into cheap ways to get there. I can get a train to Flagstaff for 250.00 around trip. I just need a way to get to the stadium from there. A Southwest ding fare. still maybe the best way though.

So, how many of you are thinking about coming to this event? There's still plenty of time to register, but I was trying to get an idea so I can work out the schedule with the show organizers.

I am going. I have also notice that airline fares to Phoenix have been dropping since the Super Bowl. Maybe we can all stay at the same hotel and get a group discount?

Will the height of the stairs in the Robo Mission be 1 cm? The reason why I ask is that so far I can only find Melamine boards that are 1.9 cms in height.

I should have the schedule up on the Hitec Robotics site this coming Monday (April 7th) at the latest.

Just so everyone knows, this is the last day to register. If you're intending to go, make sure you register at www.builderdb.com. If you have any problems, contact me at tonyo@hitecrcd.com

I really should finish my coffee before I answer questions. Sorry about the date mix up.
