The end of April will be good for me.

We could keep this as a more lad back affair and keep the Birmingham event for the proper competition. I agree London would be a good location any where would be cool even someones garage.

I will be up for that.
Since the UK meet in November most of my kit has been in packed up in storage (I have been moving house) . So don't expect a the robot to be any different to the one I had in November - although I have found some time to re-vamp my XBOX gamepad controller software. Can't wait to try out the new XBOX controller software it out on the Robots (when I eventually find the right box in the Garage ;-).

Have sent a couple of emails for possible places to meet. If anybody, not just in London has a possible places to meet or have any ideas. As mentioned we only need a room and a board.

PS I'll get the beers (over 18s only)

Excellent, thanks Sonic.
Shall I bring my set of steps? For anyone who would like to practice?

This is great news.

I suppose I should start to practice.

Just upgraded the Manoi to Lipo's which has firmed up the servo responses

Hi all,

I have been in contact with Sonic and I have a village hall close by which we could use to host this as my front room would be a little cramped.

Its very cheap and has power, tables, chairs, tea/coffee, etc

I could probably put a few people up for the night if need be and arrange some local transport if an evening in the pub was in order afterwards.

The village is near Bicester (just North of Oxford). I won't give out the exact location just in case we get some gatecrashers :D

I'll contact them and get some dates together for March/April, preferrably a Saturday and we can see which most people can get to.

Drop me a pm if you are interested.

Hi,

I am looking at setting this up for Saturday the 19th April.

It will take place in a Village Hall near Bicester. lots of tables, chairs, power, etc.

If we can spread the word around, and see if we can get the numbers up. I can't see it being much of a spectator event, but friends/family are fine.

The booking of the hall would depend on the number of people confirmed as attending. If there is not enough interrest, we can always hold something in my garage (amongst the old Robotwars junk)

Just a bit of fun and a chance to get some more regular events for the UK.

The cost of the hall is only about £3.50 each if 10 people turned up. There is a pub that serves food close by and a supermarket 5 minutes away.

Although we are a humanoid group, feel free to invite anyone along who has something interresting and remotely robotic to display/chat about. Or I might have to bore you all with video's of my robots being trashed on Robotwars :D

I might add a link to this thread on my forum signature just to keep the profile up.

Hi, only 4 interested so far. Any more takers?

If not, I will let the hall go, not worth rattling around in such a large space.

Thanks

Up to 5 people now.

Don't be shy if you don't have a robot to demo/compete with, it's a good opportunity to come along see some Humanoids in action and have a good chat.

Just let me know if you plan on attending and I'll give out the location details nearer the time.

Hi,

Made a melamime table yesterday and re-designed all my Manoi's moves to make sure they all worked. No more blaming it on the surface ;)

One of the big steps I took was to strip apart all the Manoi's moves into single steps.

I have a step forward, forward+left, forward+right and backwards.

The advantage of this is that I can adjust the walk of the robot mid-sequence and correct any heading problems. I can now move a proper figure of eight without stopping and changing course.

I might add a couple of football kicks just in case anyone else has some similar routines setup :D

Also, I have re-designed the moves whilst using LIPO batteries. I found that the performance of the robot changes as to the power source (NIMH, PSU, LIPO), so I bought three LIPO packs and a charger that fills them in an hour. This means that I will not need to use a PSU and tether for testing which was affecting the moves ever so slightly.

Orac - I look forward to seeing the new moves. Please bring the Melamine table along on the 19th April. Melamine is a material that everyone has easy access too (and relatively cheap to buy), so we can all practice on the same surface.

I like the idea of football kicks. Perhaps if everyone who plans to attend on the 19th April prepared a few football moves we could then have a few rounds of (manually controlled) Humanoid RoboFootball. The game will always require a goal keeper so even a half built robot that can shimmy left and right can take part.

The only thing we need to do is to agree upon a football - one that everyone can easily get hold of and use to practice with.
(it is a shame shame inner kinder surprise eggs are not spherical ;-).
