I believe football was a great success and I think the consensus was to add it in for June.

I'll have a think about ways of building a more durable portable playing arena.

Football was indeed a great success. Technically it is easier than the other events. I found that 95% of the time I used only 4 moves: Turn Right, Turn Left, Sidestep Left & Sidestep Right. And that is it!

No fancy kick moves required for most of the match - just sidestep into the ball to kick (well bounce of the foot).

All in all Football is easy for all to compete in - perfect for beginners and veterens alike. The trick is create a fast sidestep for your Robot (faster than those in the standard template).

Just a few suggestions for additions.

If every one attending the event, post the specs of their robot, to go on a stats page:

Also I think it was Sonic that suggested we follow an event timetable that complements the Micromouse one.

I got this message from tony that organises the micromouse.

That’s fine … We will have some sort of stand set up at Leicester, so just turn up and drop your bots on it when you want.

I have been thinking about changing the name of our event in June to represent the range of robot activities that we now have, so micromouse would be an event within the overall competition, just as biped events would be. This puts things on a equal footing and may encourage more people to come along. This of course means that we formalise the biped events as regulars in June and November. What do you think? Any suggestions for a name? I thought, somewhat sadly, that ‘ROBOTICA’ would be a suitable cover-all….. it’s got TIC in it – but lot of references to that exist.

So what do you think I would say the names good and that we should do this. It would mean that we had set dates for events in advance. The first bit is about the space/robot event next month so if you want to take you bot you can always just leave it with them when looking around and just get it out to do some demos.

NovaOne - will do that in the future but I just put up a holding page until I do it properly.

'Robotica' to me sounds like that awful US TV programme that was an unashamed rip-off of Robot Wars.

How about 'Robogames UK'? That way we get an inherent relationship with the biggest one in the US and with any luck will draw out the competitive spirit in most people...?

Sounds fine to me, need to be a bit careful about use of names though.

Formalising the dates is good, gives us something to work to.

We could do with some more support from some of the silent UK members in the forums.

Just coming along on the day is great, if you can bring a robot in any condition, that would be great too.

I may bring along my rover if its built in time to display some autonomous behaviour aswell.

Would love to see your rover. I think that's the point of changing the name so it's about all types of robots and creates a bigger scene about robots in general.

Yep, I need to figure out why my robot seems to be limping after the football match.

Looks like the home position has gone from one of the servos. Is that unusual, could the gears have slipped round a little during a heavy impact?

No, gear slippage is usually independent from the potentiometer mounting. You could have gained a few degrees of slack if the servo horn wasn't bolted up properly, though.

I have been working on building a Sam r I kit mini sumo wrestling so that I can compete in Birmingham although I still have a fair bit of work to do to fitting of more sensors http://robosavvy.com/store/product_info ... cts_id/374

Also have entered I-sobot in the sumo as he fits all the requirements to compete although I don't think he will do all that well.
