I see in one of the documents there are a couple of low cost bluetooth adapters supported. Will Robosavvy supply these ?

Does the controller switch between bluetooth and PC port ?

Can the GP2Y0A21 be added later ?

Is the EEPROM standard ? What is it used for ?

Hi

As per the manufacturer's catalog, they supply a Bluetooth communication kit with a recommended retail price of US$199.

This seems, in my opinion, a bit excessive considering the several bluetooth alternatives we sell on our website.
Since the Robobuilder has a fairlly open hardware architecture we are pretty sure that, with some work, cheapper bluetooth modules can be hacked to work with the Robobuilder.

Currently Robosavvy has no plans on stocking the Manufacturer's Bluetooth kit due to it's cost.
However if you wish to buy the original bluetooth kit, Robosavvy can supply it on order.

Hi Pedro
Could I ask what connection you have with RoboSavvy?
Would it be worth upgrading the hip servos to these 11kg ones?
wCK-1111K
wCK RoboModule[11kg.cm,black]
Which servos are included in the spider upgrade kit?

In the Robobuilder document:
080201-remote control command.pdf

It describes the ACODE-300A and the FB155BC as compatible. These are usually about 60$

Hi Sonic

I apologize for not having introduced myself.
My name is Pedro Ramilo and I came to work with robosavvy a few months ago. My job consists on taking care of the day-to-day technical stuff (website, store, etc) and also work with Limor on new products.
In particular Robobuilder is the first product for which I worked with him side-by-side on the technical and commercial/marketing stuff from the very first day.
This is why I was the one to reply to you about bluetooth.

1) regarding bluetoth what I replied were basically the conclusions of what I had discussed with Limor previously.

2) The spider upgrade kit includes two wCK-1108K servos and one J11 joint.
We are deeply commited in promoting this 5710K robot and belive that is a very good proposal from technical point of view with a very attractive price. This is why we have talked to the manufacturer and decided to create the Spider Complementary kit so that people can have flexibility to build other and more advanced robots.

Also please note that we are ALSO offering the Distance Sensor Kit with the base 5710K package.
This is something that was not clear initially on the website.
If you look at the official specs you will see that the 5710K is not capable of object detection because it does not include the distance sensor.

As part of our promotional offer we are offering an additional Head part which includes the Distance Sensor without any additional charge.
The distance sensor is capable of measuring distances in intervals of 10cm, with a maximum range of 50cm.

With this offer we are the only store selling a 5710K that is feature compatible with the Bioloid in that they both have sound detection and distance sensor/obstacle detection.

Sonic,

About replacing the hip servos, I can't give you an answer at this time. I will discuss it with Limor and will get back to you.

FYI starting July 4th we will have both the wCK 1108K and the wCK 1111K in stock.

Thanks
Pedro.

Welcome Pedro,

Did Limor tell you we were such a tough audience ?

Maybe he will stretch his travel budget and let you come to Birmingham next week !

Wingzero wrote:Whats the difference between the wCK power servo and high power servos?

The wCK (WingChick)modules come in with with either Black(K) or Trasparent (T) covers in following flavors: 1108,1111,1113,1408,1411,1413

The first two digits signify the Power 11 or 14 Watts, the second two are the torque ie 8,11, or 13 kg.cm

so "power servo" = 11w and "high power servo" = 14w

ie wCK-1108K is the standard one, whereas wCK-1408 will be the high power version, availability not posted yet

plz note this info was compiled by a good freind Novaone

Thanks sonic and novaone, you explained it well.

I wonder how much the high power modules will cost...

It looks like the ESD-200 bluetooth might be pin compatible with the ACODE-300A and the FB155BC .

I think NovaOne already used this module in his PS2 controller

Excellent, right again I-bot :D (I've just found the 080201-remote control command.pdf on robobuilder you are refering to)..., See page 7 of this document: http://cubloc.com/download/etc/acode300a.pdf while this is the pin out of my esd200:

....the pinouts are identical :o

Hi all

Thank you very much for all the welcome messages :D and thank you NovaOne for the link you posted: we are finally getting into the fun stuff with hacking the robobuilder lol

I wanted to post some new info we just received regarding the assembly instructions/details of the Robobuilder's Bluetooth module.

Image

The manual can be found here http://robosavvy.com/RoboSavvyPages/Robobuilder/Guide_for_RBX-BLTOOTHCOM.pdf
One of the interesting things in the manual is the explanation on how to set up bluetooth in multiple-robot and multiple board scenarios:

Use one communication channel to control multiple robots
1) Connect multiple bluetooth boards in parallel with one serial port so that multiple robots receive
identical commands.
2) Use the wCK cable to connect multiple bluetooth boards [max 3 boards expandable]
3) In order to coneect more than three bluetooth boards, solder a jumper wire to the PC cable connector
and connect to the next bluetooth boards. Or users can separately design a Y-shape multiple PC cables.

2. Use multiple communicatin channels to control different robots
1) Connect a separate serial port to each bluetooth board and just connect the power in parallel.
2) Users can modify and use the wCK cables to distribute the power.
Remove the two strands in the middle in order to avoid communication inferference.

To keep stuff organized I will also be starting a new thread about:
-Remocon software: This software is used to map PC joystick keypads to Robobuilder commands (that are sent to robobuilder either via bluetooth or serial port)
- Technical details for building a remote control from scratch.
The thread can be found here http://robosavvy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2653

Thanks
Pedro
