I am eager to get a HUNO built and running for the UK Robo-One this Saturday (tomorrow) , Limor had one rushed to me from Singapore.

I familiarized my self with the build and parts yesterday evening and intend to start (and finish) the build today, posting my notes/observation as I go.
I do not intend to give full build instructions as the build instruction (written and video) seem of a high quality.

The parts; especially the wCK's look solid and well up to the job. They also looked larger than I expected....for some reason I was expecting a smaller robot?

I a certain that the hour build time printed on the box is a little optimistic, simply due to the number of screws (153), ie even if only 120 are used ....30 seconds per screw?

As you can see, in the box all the parts are grouped in assorted plastics bags, which meant some of the larger parts had rubbed/scuffed on others, but nothing serious..the sort of fine scuff marks it might get while being used for 10 mins or so.

Flicking through the manual reveals high quality colour illustrations but 98% of the text is in Korean. I thought this would be a problem, however the CD also include contained both English and Japanese version :)

I had better get building then.

Also the joint parts have small brass captive nuts...be careful you put them the right way round, they are shown dotted in the instruction.

(I haven't touched the software yet!) It runs straight away off the remote. Ace!
It seems stable... and needed no zeroing! wow!
I love the bus wiring its so neat. the spare bus connections at the ends of the limbs will be excellent for expansion...
No additional PSU is needed, so save the battery while programming it will run from the mains PSU that it charges off. 12v 5A
There seems to be space in the head and chest for lots of extras.
Wonder why it has aluminium soles, the feet seem stiff enough? Better friction?

I didn't think, so as a RoboNova user I put Loctite on a lot of the nuts, some has gotten onto the plastics and they are breaking up already...part of the torso and the left hand has split. I'm hoping the wCK plastic is different if I'm lucky?
:cry: Oh well, I guess I learned the hard way again....story of my life :oops:

Very true.
I am very happy with the speed of the build...if you prepare ie lay out all your parts sorted first, make sure you can understand the joint angle diagrams, I have no doubt that construction first time can be achieved in less that 2 hours The trained guy in the video does it in 55mins . NB spare joints and screws .. for Dino or Dogy

So far I would recommend Robobuilder to those considering buying.....

Motion Builder 1.0 (MB):
The comms works fine., but I don't have the hang of using MB after one day.. .. Its so different to RoboNova. ie RB uses the animation analogy controlling frames and transitions times from start to end position.
It calls Scenes what I would call poses, and instead of inserting those poses into the high level language directly you must sequence/build the scenes into a motion/action. These motions must be contained in a project, ...but you can download them individually to be executed by the remote or export them in header file format:?
I like the config feature (missing with RN) but essential with a kit like this. Config enables adding and removing servos .

Until I have gotten used to this method of programming I reserve judgment whether its for me.

Because of the injuries I inflicted while building...his hands would have both broken..if he had punched with them..also he was not really in the same weight class as the other robots so i did not enter him into the fighting event. (In fact latter in the day his right hand did break)
I supect due to his low centre of gravity, his walking seems faster or at least more reliable than RoboNova so I entered him in the sprint...However BillB's Bioloid moves very fast sideways :lol: so RB came second.
(NB Bren mentioned that officially his feet are too long in proportion to his legs...so he did not really qualify as a robo-one bot)

BillB is a RoboSavvy member, as far as I know he does not have a website.

Robobuilder Huno is 285(H) x 170(W) x 105(D) and mass= 1.25Kg

Turn right, left (slide without hip mod)
Punch out left,right
Stand up backwards, forwards (also forward and backwards roll)

Plus three stock moves ( you must download to the controller your self)sit, high kick, wave

I want a robot kit that can be expanded at a later date, by the sounds f it this one can be. Also i want to be able to control it remotely and get some really good walking gaits etc from it too!

The moves you download can be activaed on the remote keys 0-9 and *0-*9 (ie 20 moves max). If you are can program in C you can reprogram the arrow keys to perform moves other than stock moves....but I don't know how yet....

Also i want to be able to control it remotely and get some really good walking gaits etc from it too!


If you want open loop control gaits...no problem...If you are talking about closed-loop remote control you need to used C and bluetooth.....

robobuilder has just announced they will be releasing a metal brackets kit for huno.
The kit is intended to make the robot more robust, to participate in competitions, etc.
