Hi, guys. First time posting here. I have some problems on rigging the robobuilder.

Here goes:
I needed the robot to be rigged in a way that is similar to how a human is supposed to move. But it seems that no matter which constraint I tried, it doesn't work out well.

Is there a way to solve this? Tried the tutorials but it can't seem to apply to my case, as the joints are also a problem. (i uds that the joints can only move a certain degree.)

See the attached, it's simple to understand. (the one with the "x" is something that I do not want to happen.)
Anyway, I am finishing the bones and armatures on the robot very soon. If u guys need, I can provide here.

I'm not familiar with Blender, but searched for the problem out of interest. Your problem sounds exactly like one that can get solved by using pole targets. Your exact case is referenced in the "What is a Pole Target?" section here: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:M ... Kinematics

Please upload here and post the rigged model :D

Not familiar enough with Blender to say how to set angle limits and other constraint. however, you may find that it is something you will easily do once you try to actuate the robot or animate it in Blender. You will have to map the 0 position on the real robot to a certain angle on the simulated robot and then the constraint can be done programatically.
I you plan to use ODE or Physx to actuate the animated robot then you can set these constraint as part of the simulated joint parameters.
We are developing the EZPhysics simulator so it will be great to have this model and maybe run a simulation of the robobuilder gaits.

Here it is:

But it's not completed yet. I've only rigged the arms and the legs.

you can try, hmm....let me know whether it works. Thx.

I saw your question about rigging the robobuilder.
Personaly I have made an animation robobuiler with rigging for my website. www.robot-shop.nl. On this website i don't know how i can uploade files( first posting), but if you can send me your email by PM I can send you my blender rigg file. ( Then you can post it here.)

tip: currently you can download a new version of blender. This version works a lot easyer.

Your web site looks fantastic. Could you serve the file from a URL on your website ? If not I'd be happy to host on my open source site - I already have a blender download file - so adding another file with bones would be good.

Has anyone looked at using python to animate the model within blender ?

Hi Tec, i've sent you the PM already, btw your website is great, there's quite a great info in detail. :)

I haven't tried using python to animate robobuilder in animation yet, but I heard it will be able to sync the robobuilder in real-time.

avalanste: I have uploaded a copy of your file here because mediafire is known to remove files after a while.

TecVision: you can upload the file here (left box on the bottom when logged-in -> File Manager)

Finally i find ot how to place the file pn the internet. I have placed it bij Google Docs. With the folling link you can find the zippfile of my Robobuilder blender animation.

( PS it is not a scale model)

that works fine

If you want to work on a scale model - you can get mine from here -

Just needs wiring up.

http://robobuildervc.googlecode.com/fil ... r-full.zip

Its based on the 3D IGS models from robobuilder - converted to blender and then arranged as close to realistic as possible.. Although some fine tuning still needed.

Yeap, it works fine in 2.55b, although I can't transfer to 2.49 yet, and most probably will change the back body (I re-designed the control box casing using rhino), so will export back again.

Thank you so much for the help by the way.
(I'm still familiarising the 2.55b interface.)

but yea, has anyone tried out simulating/sync robobuilder in blender to the real robobuilder?
i'm not sure how python works (not good with scripting btw...haha), hopefully it works. =)
