Robobuilder at CES and New High Torque Servos

Hi all

Here's a video of Robobuilder attending CES this year:
phpBB [media]

You'll notice the Robot on the video has a modded head (I'm not sure if this will become a product)

You'll also notice they show some new servos. We received some preliminary information on those servos and seem targeted at high end applications competing with Robotis RX-28, RX-64 and the new EX-104.

We haven't yet received any sort of official/final information about this but we'll keep posting the news as they become available.

The new servos look nice. I wonder if they will offer an upgrade for the RBC unit as well?? - at least a Atmel2561 (although an Arm M3 @ 100Mhz would be nice - like the Coridium SuperPro http://coridiumcorp.com/SuperPRO.php). And since I'm in wish mode - how about USB port, a SD slot and expose the I2C bus for extra sensors. And as well as BT, an XBee interface .

The head mod is described in a this file -

http://robosavvy.com/Builders/l3v3rz/headhack.jpg

It does involve taking a hacksaw to the head.

The LED eyes are described here

http://robosavvy.com/Builders/l3v3rz/20 ... 161555.jpg

I'll add the links to the wiki at some point. :)

By the way in the video - the product box - looks like the standard offering - what was new ?

Same booth - same guy Sun Kim but different interview/ video . ..

The new servos are to build a 1m high robot !!! Picture/diagram of robot shown - existing servos are used as fingers to be ready in a month

phpBB [media]

Also in the video - demos of the spider and the doggy - Notice the dog barks - which was question asked in another thread on the forum some time ago.

Hrm... that robot design looks familiar. Can't quite put my finger on it..

Oh yeah, it's my design for Giger 1.0.

robobuilder did not have big class servos. I wonder what new servos they are making and whether it has RX64 type of torque.

I say
Torso virtual same except for the handles
Hip same
Upper leg same

Shoulder slightly different
Head same

So I say it is very similar. Most robots head are different. The fact that it is same highly suggest it is copy off.

Iv seen pretty much every iteration of Tyberius's Giger robot. They pretty clearly ripped off his bot. I mean it doesn't even look like they tried not too. His bots been featured in a ton of publications too, so its pretty well known. There might be some subtle differences but theirs no mistaking where the original design came from.

i'ts really regretable that they're plagerized Tyberius Robot.

As far as we know they're not planning on producing that Robot (ie the frames for the robot to build as a kit).

As for the specs oft he servos we had access to that brochure and they seem to be going after the EX-106 as well as the whole Robotis line up of RX servos.

Robobuilder had already promised high power/high torque servos when they first released the 5710K (the first docs mentioned that) but in the end they didn't deliver anything so we're in a state of mind of "wait and see"

The Robot Kits (5710, 5720) themselves although having average specs for the servos (torque/speed) do present a very nice price/quality relation. The software is really the part that's lagging behind other offers that have been appearing (Roboplus for instance).

Having said this if you're going to couple it with a more powerful computer to control it (attach a Bifferboard or roboard to it or do control over Bluetooth), Robobuilder is still probably the kit with the best API/Protocol for external control that we have on Robosavvy.

The product development cycle for Korean products seems to be a bit slower than we're used to in the western world.

You'll notice the Robot on the video has a modded head (I'm not sure if this will become a product)

Seems like there is now a new bracket kit to do the head mod:

Image

Also a fighting robot kit T-01 ! ... (hopefully the T stands for Toy not Terminator)

The T-01 looks great , I can't wait to get hold of one of those. And I assume the head mod will be available at the same time. As for the high speed movements in the video i guess a servo upgrade is required to do it justice . 8)

Thanks for the tip.

We've emailed Robobuilder to find out more about this new Kit.

It looks like an Add On to the current Robobuilder design and I was wondering how it compares to the Metal Brackets Kit http://robosavvy.com/store/product_info ... cts_id/533

Its seems to me the T-01 is a more simplified version of the Metal Brackets Kit and is built using Metal Joints, the Metal Brackets in the Legs and Metal Chest and head and new Metal Brackets in the Arms. The head also seems to move so there's probably a 17th servo...

Hopefully it will be less expensive than the Full Metal brakcets kit. We have to admit that despite being a nice upgrade, the full metal brackets kit ( http://robosavvy.com/store/product_info ... cts_id/533
) is a bit expensive compared to the price of the Robot itself.
Our main buyers of the original Metal Bckts kit are universities who take Robobuilders to Competitions (they add the brackets and replace the microcontroller with a design of their own).

We'll post more information on this T01 and head as soon as we receive it.

It'll also be nice to see if someone decides to combine it with a Roboard 050 (not out yet but check the Roboard forum). That would be something else!

Oh and remember come and visit us at Makerfaire next weekend and bring your robots!
We'd really like to meet with our forum members! (and maybe even do some robot fights ;) )

We got offical information about this:

The T01 was designed by a Competitor and designed to enter a competition.
It looks like a heavilly modded 5710K with some parts from the Metal Brackets Kit, some custom fabricated parts and the new Head.
At this point they are not planning on releasing the T01 under the Robobuilder brand since it's not their design but we're trying hard to get our hands on one and find out pricing.

As for the Head Mod, it has been released in Korea only. Robobuilder is now translating the documentation to English which should be ready by EOM.

Finally the high torque servos are being finalized. We expect the brochures to be ready by EOM and shipping/production should follow shortly.

We'll keep you posted about updates.

Is there any further news on T01 brackets ?
The extended forearm/hand looks very useful .
Maybe they could sell us a limited number and or they could also provide a build thread for all items included ?
Keen to get a set as it looks great !!

Hi

As for the T01 we have not received any further information. As I mentioned the information we got was that the T01 was not built by Robobuilder; it was built by one of their customers for a competition.

However, do note that the T01 is partly based on the Metal Brackets kit available here http://robosavvy.com/store/product_info ... cts_id/533
This kit does not include the forearm though but includes some other parts that make up the T01.

As for the T01 Robobuilder promised to look into it but to be honest with the release of their new servos I think they're not having much time to look into any other requests.

I will post on the forum should there be any further developments about this.

Regards
Pedro

Hi

we have some news regarding some of the brackets used on the T01.

I've made a forum post here http://robosavvy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=30882 about this.

Well be getting the metal/Fighting forearms as well as the Metal Chests (in Red and Blue).

The remainder or the parts used on the T01 are part of the Full Metal Brackets Kit (http://robosavvy.com/store/product_info ... cts_id/533) although in this assembly they use them in a different way (look for example for the leg brackets. they're secured to the servos only by 2 screws instead of 4).

As for the RED colar that pops out of the Blue chest it's a metal reinforcement to assemble in the empty space between the servos in the chest.
No pricing for the metal head yet.

The new products (Chest and Fighting Forearms) should be showing up in our online store in the next week.

Pedro
