How can i add voice to robobuilder (transfer sounds ecc)

Hello,
please a little help:
I am thinking of buying a robobuilder for making custom motions with talk (for example a shake hand "saying hello i am Robobuilder" or reacting to a sensor reading with a voice "danger danger" or "obstacle in front").
I believe that the only version with a speaker is the transparent one (5720 T).
Is this true, can i transfer custom wav files to it?
And another question:
I had a bioloid begginer kit and i managed to program it with the Roboplus software (not knowing much of programming before only having read a book of c programming as hobby)
do you think that the robobuilder software or the msrds will be much more difficult for a begginer or could he manage to program it in another language?
I downloaded msrds and followed as possible the tutorial by Robobuilder but the brick does not give me all the options (as they are mentioned on the tutorial) maybe because there is not a real Robobuilder module connected.
Hope not to tired you by saying to much, thank you.

Hi,

Unfortunately none of the Robobuilder editions come with the voice any more so if you want to add voice you will need to add a board that can read audio files like this mp3 trigger http://www.sparkfun.com/products/11029

If you were able to learn how to program a Bioloid with Roboplus it will be very easy for you to learn how to use the equivalent tool for Robobuilder (which is MotionBuilder/ActionBuilder or the RBC protocol).

About msrds I don't have experience with it, lets wait for more answers :)

:) Thanks, so it would be better for me (more economic) to buy the 5710 red edition as, if i understand right, the only difference with the 5720 blue is the transparency and the inner lighting with the led lights (they dont put anymore the speaker to this edition the 5720 :? )

Hi there,

If you have a little budget, may I recommend you my MTY controller board? You can just replace your current RBC as it is the same form-factor.

I can write a customized firmware where it will plays your .wav files you place on the uSD card & it will can be triggered by your IR. You can still use your Motion builder to create the motion but must be converted to our file format.

Please email me if you require more information. (workNplay@katotechnology.com )

Thank you.

Hi Robotactor

With regards to MSRDS, the reason why you're not seeing all of the options in the MSRDS GUI is because you are using the free version of the MSRDS brick (plug in) for Robobuilder.

Robobuilder has released another version of the Brick(plug in) for MSRDS which includes all of those functionalities.

However this evrsion is only available in wjhat's called the "Education Edition" which we don't stock.

Having said this, there are plenty of activities that you can do with the free version of the Robobuilder brick (plug in) for MSRDS:

- Control the Robot with a Joystick
- Control the Robot through Voice commands
- Use text to Speech (on the computer) to have text read back to you and at the same time make the Robot move

The limitation of the free version of the brick (plug in) is that it can can't read sensorial status from the Robot.
However it can send out all Motion Play commands and integrate with all ther MSRDS bricks (Speech Recognition, Voice Output, Xbox controller, etc).

Regards
Pedro.

Hi Pedro,

thank you for the info about MSRDS, and another question please:

At the end you say that it can send out speech recognition, voice output, xbox controller etc. this is the same for all the Robobuilder models (voice output in theory i immagine)?

And if you know maybe there is a way for adding voice to Bioloid Premium?

Thanks again for your time.

Hi Robotactor

Just to be clear as there seems to be some persisting confusion:

When I say
"- Control the Robot with a Joystick
- Control the Robot through Voice commands
- Use text to Speech (on the computer) to have text read back to you and at the same time make the Robot move "

ALL of these activities are processed on the PC in MSRDS.
The Sound Output will come from the PC (NOT the Robot) and you need to speak TO the PC for Speech Recognition (NOT to the Robot).

The only thing MSRDS does that relates to the Robot is send commands to make it move as a reaction to whatever logic you program in MSRDS.
(for example walk forward move after the word "forward" is recognized by MSRDS on the PC. There is an exmaple for this in the Robobuilder Documentation for MSRDS)

Furthermore as I explained there are currently no Robobuilders for sale that can do any sort of Sound Output or Speech Recognition for that matter.

As listed on the product pages, depending on the version they come with Distance Sensor, Acceleration Sensor and Bluetooth connectivity.

With regards to adding Speech Output for Bioloid as Nuno explained there is no solution for this available from the manufacturer.
You can build your own hack and use, for example an MP3 trigger or similar but please understand this is a "hack". If you choose to go ahead with it, please share your progress as we're always keen to learn about the ingenuity of our users :)

Pedro

glad I was able to help :)

If you're a programmer (ie if you have more of a software background) Robobuilder has really cool and unique features, especially the RBC protocol and the alternative DCMP firmware.

This is my case and I like it very much.

As you may have seen we also sell NAO. When we do tradeshows we take all the flagship products and it's really interesting to see how people react well to the fact that NAO can speak (it has true text to speech and not pre recorded sounds).

Voice Recognition is something that isn't as popular mostly because of reliability.

I understand the appeal of a Robot that can talk but unfortunately - at this point in time - the price gap between NAO (one of the best in class) and Bioloid or Robobuilder is so large that we can only look forward to see what innovations there are ahead (in the affordable price range).
