What other OS based Controllers are there?

Based on DMP's Vortex processor / SoC this board is a full computer capable of running a standard Windows and Linux installation on the backpack of your robot.

What other OS based Controllers are there?

Im looking for an OS based controller dedicated for robotics. Something other than the RB110 (which is awesome by the way).

I am already using an RB110 but looking for other options (dont ask why, my supervisor wants another)

I have found some small computers but they are not really suited for robots, more of an actual small PC. So all it has is a couple of usb ports.

Cheers

What are your requirements? What is it that distinguishes "dedicated for robotics" in your application?

You can find a number of small PC's out there, and couple them with USB-based I2C, GPIO, etc. These solutions will be larger, consume more power, and likely cost significantly more.

As for a solution including a mix of features like Roboard, there are no others of the size or features or capabilities or low power consumption of Roboard. You can search for other Vortex86-based solutions, that might be sufficient for your supervisor.

Depending on your application, there may be other possibilities. For a biped like the KHR's or Robonova's or other, there is no other solution that comes close.

Have you looked at the Bifferdboard?
Check here http://www.google.com/search?q=(%22biff ... R+bifferos)+site:robosavvy.com+inurl%3Aforum
and here http://bifferos.bizhat.com/

Some people have already done some some interesting work with it and there are nice docs as well.

You can also use Gumstix Overo which are very popular in Robotics. See here

Cheers for that. Basically i mean something with high speed serial, ftdi maybe, ADCs GPIOs etc.

I had read about the Gumstix a long time ago but completely forgot about them. It looks like i might get one of their starter kits.
