x86 arduino ?

hey roboard

did you think to making an x86 arduino clone? i see, this may be an absurd idea. but there are already arduino clones of various cpu (ARM, PIC32, ...)in the world, and an x86 arduino that can be used either as PC or as arduino is really cool! if you can make a tiny board as small as rb-050, why not consider making an arduino-like board.

just my suggestion, how do you think this? ... ;-)

Hi, JJchuang,

Arduino is a very excellent product --- very friendly and creatively. Making an x86 arduino-like board is a good idea, but to inherit the spirit of Arduino, we need not a MCU-like x86 board but a MCU-like x86 CPU: a very cheap & small & high-integration x86 CPU. At the moment, the Vortex86DX CPU of RoBoard is not suited to make an arduino clone and it needs to be redesigned completely for this purpose.

Although it is possible with the newest IC technology, redesigning such an x86 CPU is not a trivial work and costly. We suggest that if you really need an x86 arduino, you may consider first to port the arduino S/W system to the current RoBoards and use them as Arduino ;-)

(just jokingly: if the Arduino team is really interested on this (although we don't think so) and contacts us, we would consider to do such an CPU seriously... :) )
