Hello, i'm a uni student and my project this year is to write some software for tge engineering departments old KHR-1. however i have a technical difficulty in actually getting the robot to move. any help you guys could give me on this would be awesome.
Now, i'm pretty sure that the problem is with the communication - the powers fine, but whenever i try to connect to the robot using my own simple code or with HTH it has no effect. the robot just stands still in (presumably) it's home postion. the cables fine as far as i can see and t's connected properly. i'm using the right serial port, and it dosen't look like any of the wires in the board are lose or anything.
It cetainly was working last year but i can't work out whats wrong now - it'll either be incredibly simple or really bad i suspect.
Anyways, if you could point me in the right direction that would be really handy.
Thanks

Hi..
There many possibilities...
First, I suggest you checked the power whether the battery is connected properly...
In normal operation..the red led will on and every time you send a command to the RCB-1 boards, either through H2H window or your own program, the green led, located next to the red one will blink. Once the communication is finished then it goes off.
The worst case is your boards are broken, hopefully not
Good luck....

Cheers

Another idea would be to check if there is anything coming out of your RS232 port when you try to access the robot.

Is the Sync tick box enabled?

I would connect up my laptop with a cross over cable and run hyperterm to check for any output from H2H

Thanks for the replies, i can confirm that the red LED is on but the green only switched on when i first plug the robot in, then when it assumes it default position it goes out for good. I've tried HTH, microsofts robotics studio and the c library i got off this website to no avail.

Hi..
Yes.It seems the power supply is fine. I agree with Orac, I suggest you to check the output of RS-232. The boards do not receive any signal from H2H window.

Cheers

OMG, i dont believe it.
the robot has 3 cables coming out of it, only one of which fits the wireless cpnnection i've got, so i assumed that said cable was plugged into the right slot on the board.
it's not! it was one of the other 2!!! yeah, just call me stupid from now on...
So yeah the robot works now i'm using the right bleeding cable....
thank you everyone, sorry about that..

Don't worry about it. The same thing happens to all of us from time to time.

I upgraded my KHR-1 to the RCB3 controller on Wednesday and spent about half an hour trying to figure out why some of the servos didn't seem to be responding correctly. It turned out I had offset the last set of them by one connector... Urrrggghhh!

I finally got it sorted out, and it works like a dream, but for a while I was getting really frustrated.

Yeah, it's not the hard stuff that gets you it's the incredibly simple/obvious stuff, cause it's so obvious you think "yes, of course i'm sure thats right..."
ah well, you gotta laugh

I agree with you all guys....
even small things need to be considered otherwise they will make you frustrated :(
Good luck with your robot.

Cheers
