crabfu motions

i don't suppose anyone has been lucky enough to snag copies of the walking motions from 'crabfu'?

I've been eyeing his movie clips with envy and even dropped him a quick email to see if he'd share the files - but not had a reply yet.

For those who've not seen them; youtube crabfu

IMHO his walk motions are head and shoulders above anything else i've yet seen (feel free to point me at other links). They're slightly 'cartoonish' but in a good way and you'd almost think he was using a '1HV or '2HV with the extra hip DOF kit fitted - but he's not.

I'm with you on that. As I commented in another thread, crabfu demonstrates that animation skills are a huge advantage. His walking routines incorporate an understanding of how humans actually move. Perhaps mounting a carefully planned, guerrilla attack on the SteamWorks is the solution.

Those are crabfu's motion files? Score! Did they run fine on a 1HV without conversion, or did they need to be converted from their original 2HV format?

I had no problem. I just renamed them to an English name and they worked fine.

So may I assume your 1HV is now strolling around exactly like crabfu's 2HV? You have to admit, his walking gaits and other motions are a quantum leap over anything else available. If the Kondo folks were hip, they'd make a deal with crabfu to distribute his routines on CD with their kits.

Hey chaps, just FYI, the motions on DroidWorks' link are NOT CrabFu's.

I had an email from I-Wei (CrabFu) yesterday and access to some of his previous working files - like the rest of us work, life and stuff have meant he's not got as far as he'd like with the motion files so at this point in time no genuine 1HV versions exist.

The files i now have are 'in progress' and need converting to 1Hv friendly servo mapping, then tweaking before they get close to being usable.

That said, once i've converted them they should be a great starting point.

The ones I-Wei shows in his youtube vid's demonstrate what can be done, but he goes on to say that the positions are prone to lots of falls as they are much more unstable - if you want more human like motions that's the pay off.

He also mentions that you need that very short power 'sweet spot' from the battery pack in order to supply the 'bot with enough amps, so run times are short.

Looks like we'll need Lipo's and bench power supplies.

Hmmmm... that's disappointing. (Droidy old boy, now maybe you'll realize that robotics and crack pipes are a bad combination.)

First of all I got the walking gait from knodo and It looks EXACTLY like the crab fu motion.

If it is not working for you then there is a problem on your end not mine. It works fine for me and you are the ONLY complaint out of 100's Of ppl.

Second slandering someone and insulting ppl is not what this site is here for. If you want to call ppl names and cause problems then go to some teen chat room.

Easy there, big fella! No offense was intended; it was all in good-natured fun. There's no reason to be so thin-skinned.

Um... i would also like to say these motions are not the crabfu ones..... they are the standard kondo ones. crabfu motions are a lot more human like, but from what ive heard they are not all that stable (watch the videos and you will see a harness is always in use).
Oh and by the way i found that comment funny wintermute ive used it before!

I've been hoping that I-Wei would put in an appearance on this thread. I wouldn't mind hearing his thoughts about his motions as compared to the standard motions from Kondo that Droid Works linked to. Also, we could give him some shameless flattery followed by begging.

You might want to add a caveat that these files DON'T work on a 1HV without some additional work.

This is because they were written for the 2HV and they are also quite specific to I-Wei's 'bot. The motions work by using instability so see them as a starting point for your own work.

I can only post what I-Wei gave me. Any questions about his files you will have to ask him.
