Me again, quick question really! Has any one bought the hip pivot kit for the Khr 2hv? I am eager to look into purchasing it, but was concerned about it fitting with the genex suit.
did not know whether it is an immediate purchase or one that can wait. Plus was curious to know if the standard moves etc will still work with the extra servo.

Yes.

I have no idea, basically because I don't have the Genex suit. If you ask Kondo they will say probably say 'maybe' but won't guarantee that it will.

Kondo supplies a new set of motions via the RoboSpot website for use with the pivot kit.

Nice to have a base set of moves to work from. Thanks for the link. Score another for the 2HV.

Which brings up the question;
Do they have sets like these available for the 1HV???

Which leads to another question;
Is the 2HV more popular in Japan/Korea? I seem to see it exclusively over the 1HV in the soccer events. Is there a reason for this? The 1HV just too top heavy maybe?

I don't really see the 1HV in the combats either. Most of them are heavily modified 2HVs or the older KHR-1s. But nothing that appears to use the 1HV chassis/fuselage.

Which is leading me to believe that the 2HV with the hip upgrade is the better choice over the 1HV.

The 1HV is basically a jacked up version of the 2HV, not a complete redesign.

The 2HV is more popular because it's cheaper, and has a much larger user base. That may sound self-fufilling, but the Japanese tend to buy what their friends have or recommend - kind of a herd instinct.

For robot soccer, they typically take a 2HV and replace the leg servos with the mod kit Kondo sells. There isn't any strong advantage to the 1HV in that scenario.

As for the 2HV with the pivot mod being a better choice - well, for robot soccer it probably is. On the other hand, if you want more realistic movement with more DOF, then the 1HV could be a better choice. It comes down to what you want to do with it.

Good points.

I'm leaning towards the 1HV over the 2HV as height doesn't seem to be an issue with the Asian combat bots. They seem to have long legs and compensate by squating down to lower COG.

But then again with the $300 saved by buying an 2HV I could try and acquire a nice R-Blue body ;)

It varies based on the builder's preferences and know-how. Just adding height raises the COG and makes you more vunerable in combat - easier to tip over.

The KHR-1HV just jacked up the body to accomodate the additional servos which raised the COG quite a bit and threw it out of proportion (just my opinion). Still, there are some things you can do to compensate and still take advantage of the extra DOF.

But then again with the $300 saved by buying an 2HV I could try and acquire a nice R-Blue body ;)

I know you're joking since $300 is just a good start at buying one or two of the R-Blue servos...

Pretty much. I was referring to the the "SMRS-001 R-Blue Body TypeRCB" chassis alone. About $150 USD plus shipping... and handling... and duty... and scotch-guarding... and undercoating... etc... ;)

$300 later... I'd have a nice paper weight needing five servos at about $150 each. ;)

Recieved my Khr 2hv yesterday along with the pivot kit and tub soles!!
Going through the manual at work then prob have a small building/testing session later.Then tomorrow i have an entire evening devoted!!
Just a couple of things relly. Need to know where to get the li-pos from, what kind etc-if anyone has any links so i can see exactly what i should be getting, and chargers. At the moment i have a 2pin to uk plug aapter that converts our mains 230v to 110-100v. But would quite like the longer battery run times and no memory in the batteries!!
Regards
