Anyone own one of the KTX Gladiators with the 20 DOF? I've been back and forth between the Gladiator and the Kondo KHR-1HV for a couple of weeks now and the moment of truth may be coming sooner than I had expected. I should be able to buy a robot this Friday afternoon if all goes well. I have a budget of $1500.00 total, so that may not be enough to cover the shipping costs, which means that I may still have to postpone for another week. I've still got to make a decision and could really use some advice.

From a layman's point of view, they both look very attractive to me. The 1HV is known to be a really good humanoid and there are lots of people on-line who own them and have posted motion files for download. That means lots of support if I need it. However, if I get the Kondo, I will also have to buy the Genex suit (don't like the look otherwise), tub soles, the remote transmitter and a couple of gyroscopic sensors. Plus, the assembly directions are in Japanese. :( The pictures may be enough to get me through the build, but I would like to be able to read and confirm rather than mess something up.

On the other hand, the KTX Gladiator seems very similar as far as its abilities and comes with the PS2 style controller, LED eyes and a speaker that can play sound effects and wav files. However, I have not found anyone who can tell me firsthand if the robot is truly a gem.

Does anyone know anything about the Gladiator? :?:

THANKS!
Jason

I'm in pretty much the same position and I recently emailed Kumotek about whether or not they will be selling the RB2000 kits (19 DOF), and apparently they will be. So there's another option soon on its way. Like you, I find the KHR-1HV to be rather ugly and honestly the Japanese competitors at RoboOne have customized theirs to such a degree that they're not even the same thing anymore. Rather than buying what everyone else is buying I'm going to go with something like the RB2000.

Why? Well I've looked at the RB2000 with extra joints (the RB2800) and it moves very much like the Team Osaka VisiOn robots. I like that about them. They also have 16 channels for LEDs and can handle more servos than the KHR-1HV kits. Like the KTXGladiators the RB2000 will have a speaker which can output sounds (fairly limited memory on it, but still). Either way, the Gladiator or RB2000 seems so much more attractive to me.

You can watch plenty of RB2000 videos here: http://www.vstone.co.jp/top/products/robot/rb2000/gallery.html

I can see the appeal of the RB2000 after watching all of the videos on that link. Hmm...

I won a Kumotek-KTX ( well, the japanese Robovie-X ) off of ebay. It showed up today and I was wondering if anyone knew where I can download the english version of the software. I found an english manual and have been able to at least test out the servos by comparing the pictures in the manual against the software. However it's not quite the same version and it'd just be a LOT easier to get this guy going with the english software.
