I will try to organize them better, put them under one topic. I think that I have now upload all of the Bioloid brackets and the head and chest plate for the premium humanoid. Nest step is to print them out using the Thing-O-Matic. The issue that we are working on is how to do support structures when printing with the Thing-O-Matic.

Hi Gort,

I've been working on a Bioloid model for the OpenHRP simulator. As part of that work I have been accumulating the necessary mesh files for all the Bioloid parts. Now that the premium kit parts have been included in the Robotis CAD file archive I have all the necessary parts.

My problem is that I cannot convert the CM-510 file into a mesh format with any of the programs that I have available to me. The file is just too complicated. So I am wundering whether you have or can produce a copy of the CM-510 file in some more useable format, say .stl or .3ds for example?

Thanks Gort,

But... it looks like you get the same result that I get. The CM-510 .stp file has the base piece along with the buttons and LEDs but the top piece is missing!

I've been using free-cad and unless you are using the same software there's a good chance that the .stp file is simply incomplete.

The .igs file seems to have included the part, but I have been unable to export it to a mesh file todate.

On a separate note...

I've been following progress in the 3D printing field for a number of years now and even attended Maker Faire in NYC this fall. It's only a matter of time before the technology hits my price point, so I am interested to see how the field is advancing.

What 3D printer technology are you using?

The three printers that I have access to are the MakerBot Cupcake, Thing-O-Matic and the UP! printer.

I think that the 3-D printer revolution is here!

Thanks for the feedback, your luck with the files is about the same as mine.

Well, you have to be the first person I've heard of that has access to a working Thing-O-Matic, the kit has only been out for a month or so. How does it compare to the UP! printer?

The Thing-O-Matic hardware is better but the UP! software is better right now. If I was buying one I would buy the Thing-0-Matic now. It is just a matter of time before the Thing-O-Matic's software and firmware is upgraded to a level which is better than the UP! printer.

Do you guys have both in KC? I'm actually a bit surprised by this statement. Is it the scaffolding or something that makes the UP! quality look so high?

Yes we have cupcakes, one Thing-0-Matic and one UP! I will stand by my statement. The Thing-o-Matic will be the better of the three printers in time.

Just dye them using RIT dye. It's super easy.

Very cool. Any reason why a cupcake could not be made to beat an UP! too?
