Even after watching the video twice I don't quite get how he plans to give free 3D printing.

There are well established rules of engagement when it comes to giving crowdfunding a chance. The bar is set so high at the moment that for example for a gadget launch you are expected to spend about 20k$ on video production, PR, "soft launch", social engagement etc.
