Last week we showed off the Replicator 2x at the Gadget Show Live 2013 in Birmingham. We also set up a face scanning system at the Microsoft booth.
The system was composed of the following:
Kinect for Windows
Kinect Fusion SDK - software for 3D reconstruction
Big computer - with decent GPU for real-time scanning at "high" resolution
Netfabb software - fixes the holes and cuts the model so that it can be printed upright.
Makerware - Makerbot's slicer software prepares for printing
Replicator2 - Makerbot 3D printer
In order to be scanned you had to sit on a swivel chair and slowly rotate your face in front of the Kinect while your face gradually resolved on the screen.
Over 500 people were scanned during 5 days including TV and Rugby celebrities
