An affordable hexapod robot offering is something I've been wanting to have on RoboSavvy/store/ for a long time.
Finally, thanks to Conrad from
Inexglobal.com, I'll soon have the opportunity to start programming this pretty thing.
Currently the body parts are in Perspex but we are looking at using black anodized aluminum instead which will be lighter and more durable but may be too expensive.
The servos are cheapo RC analog microservos but that blue and black combo sure looks pretty. There will also be an option for more powerful digital servos hopefully with a free-horn (like the kondo servos) or BYOS (Bring Your Own Servos).
It will eventually be available with the pretty servos, here for a target price of around 140GBP / 280USD / 175EUR (excluding VAT which is a 17.5% tax applicable only if your shipping address is within European Community).
It will host one of two new controller boards in the making (to be announced); one based on Atmega128, the other on Rensas and the embedded and PC software will be opensource.
one big challenge is the lack of "free horn" on the bottom of the servo. basically the legs are attached to the top part of the spider's back and the bottom part is not really serving any function at the moment.
This is very much preliminary and any feedbacks are welcome.
most importantly : would you buy one at that price ?
