Tomotaka Takahashi of ROBO-GARAGE - the same guy who created Chroino, FT, and Evolta - has just unveiled his latest creation, ROPID.
ROPID (a combination of ROBOT and RAPID) can jump 8cm high, or roughly 1/4 of his total body height. The robot uses modified hobby servos. It also is equipped with a speech recognition chip and understands about 8 verbal commands.

Unbelievable video clip! At about the one minute mark in the clip the robot spins around at least one and a half times (a 540 degree spin) in about 4 seconds using only 9 steps. When we tested the original KHR-1, it took twice as long to spin one third the distance (180 degrees). This is quite an advancement.

the animation that Takahashi manages to get out of his humanoids is amazing. i'm not sure the jump is really a jump in the sense that the robot's head doesnt get much further up than the standing position but he bends the knees in sync so it looks the works.
