Hi guys

One of our suppliers (Anthony from DMP/Roboard) is exhibiting at IREX2009 and he sent us these pictures of a Human Size Robot capable of playing ping pong.
The Robot is from Vietname and, as I understand, it was not yet fully working today. The live demo is scheduled for tomorrow.

Cheers

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but...

The robot wasn't working at IREX. The ping pong ball is attached to the paddle, at least it was every I went by the booth during the course of the show. The operators had the robot behind a screen almost all the time, and never were able to get it running. They showed a similar robot at IREX 2007, and couldn't get that one running either.

i'm sorry to hear you didn't get to see it working.

as I mentioned in my post, the news I got was that, at the time, the robot was not working yet but should work until the end of irex.

apparently it never did....

too bad as I would really like to have seen some footage of it working.

Here's what it looked like two years ago at IREX:

And a more recent version as of February 2009:

It seems to be a marketing/PR project to generate interest in TOSY's toys and other products.

We saw these guys at Neuremberg toy fair last February. They have some odd toy "robots". the big ping-pong player is a marketing thing. they spent a lot of money on marketing. they also showed the shell of a KHR1 style humanoid robot that they said they were planning to sell.
Anyway, I heard only good things about Vietnam's budding high-tec so hopefully we'll see more from them.

That was probably this one, or an earlier version:

They were only showing the shell and the only info available was on the spec. sheet above, and only in English which was odd for IREX.
