Sparkfun, now do a version of the USB Host Shield, and the price is coming down.
I didn't try emulating any controllers to the game consoles, and cannot help very much, because I don't have the consoles, only the controllers.

Both the wimote and the PS3 controllers work fine over bluetooth with the shield. You might be able to emulate the controllers using bluetooth too.

Also have the PS3 working bluetooth under LUFA on AT90USBKEY.
Sparkfun shield info here:

PS3 Remote on Atmel

Hello,
Sorry to dig up such an old thread, but this is very relevant to my interests! I'd like to run a stock ps3 controller through an atmel or pic. It was previously stated I could use an AVR32 chip due to its USB capabilities. Would this imply that I could simply purchase a usb bluetooth dongle and connect to the ps3 controller directly that way?

Ultimately, I want to control a combat robot (2 pwm outputs for h-bridge motor controllers, and one more output to generate pwm signal for large external BLDC controller. Compactness is critical here, I want the smallest footprint possible under about 12mm tall. It would be ideal to be able to use one of the many bluetooth modules available for on-board applications, but it sounds like this is not possible due to HID requirements?

Thanks for any help,
Eric

Can you not simply use combinations of buttons on the RC100 for more commands ?

The XBox controller has USB interface in either the cable or wireless version. The wireless is not a standard like zigbee or bluetooth.

Xbox controller is supported on the PC so it is typical to use the PC to relay commands between controller and robot. Connection between PC and robot is then cable, bluetooth, or zigbee.

Some more ideas here:

Sorry to bother you, ibot, but did you ever release any kind of library or example code to use either of the controllers over Bluetooth? I'm trying to do a vehicle based on wireless control and I already have the usb shield and everything that's needed except a working code. Could you help me? I already had the dualshock 3 working over wired usb. I just want to be able to move some servos and motors
