The personal robotics companion challenge is no longer a Japanese craze. :!:

Philips (a Dutch multinational company in case you didn't know) are about to launch a robotic talking quadraplegic cat.
As the videos clearly show, unlike with normal cats, interaction with the beast does not necessitate the use of antihistamine. However, a sledge hammer can come in handy.

It appears that Philips has a backup plan. There's a non-cat version of this thing.

Turns out WowWee (company behind Robosapien/Roboraptor) is involved in the development of the non-cat version of this thing with Philips. It now has a name - SCOTY - Smart Companion Operating Technology
