If you haven't seen his new bot have a look here.

Furthermore, on his website http://www.geocities.jp/dr_giy/ he uses a build style similar to Tomotaka Takahashi's when constructing the outer shell.

Dr. GIY and Sugiura-san (Dynamizer) were the two technical advisors for the MANOI project. Takahashi's design, as beautiful as it was, wasn't manufacturable in any volume. They played a key role in the redesign and bringing MANOI to market.

That makes a lot of sense, too bad I didn't research more. But how did you acquire this information? Furthermore has anyone in the forum used this technique with their robots? I am interested in molding fiberglass and carbon fiber over a wood negative for custom parts but have never attempted it. What are the pros and cons of using this over aluminum?

They're friends of mine. I was one of the beta testers for the MANOI AT-01 before it was released to the market. Here's the photoset from early 2006 when we critiqued one of the first MANOIs:

Some of the builders do it with mixed results. It's fine as long as you're fairly gentle with the robot, but if you engage in ROBO-ONE type bouts the fiberglass tends to crack/split and get roughed up quickly.[/url]
