Robonova versus Bioloid

OK, I'm after either a robonova or bioloid comprehensive.....

However......

Both seem to have their own advantages and disadvantages. I need good comparisons. Could I have opinions as to which of these 2 people prefer?

I want something upgradable, moddable, hackable/very programmable, great mobility. (i think i just asked for the perfect robot there, but you catch my drift)

:)

Try here:

http://www.robotadvice.com/compare-humanoid-robots.html

its the only comparison site I know of but no bioloid listed.

I think bioloid is a bit of a "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of robot but I am sure there are those that will argue against me.

Oh, almost forgot, Robonova all the way.

You might get a bias opinion posting this question here by the way.

Okay - my honest opinion,

They both are great robots (I own both) but they are very different:

If you want a humanoid robot that has the ability to add sensors, gyro and other off the shelf bits and pieces then go Robonova

If you want a robotics experimentation kit that can be a wheeled bot, hexapod, plotter (theres a thread about this one), or a humanoid, but is more complex on the add on side (see the I-O module threads, some of us are building an expansion module), then go bioloid.

They both have their place but I believe it is very different spaces. For example I can imagine modifying my RN-1 for Robo-one competition but not my Biloid, thats definately more experiment and learn stuff.

Thats my humble opinion

It's a choice I had to make as well - robonova or bioloid. Both are excellent humanoid robots. After working for a plastics manufacturing company and dealing with various plastics that not only change over time but have various challenges such as flashing and mold shrinkage, I decided on a metal robot. I'm very happy with robonova as the metal is machined to very high tolerance, more stable over time, and not subject to degradation under UV. Before buying, I researched software and like what's included with robonova. But if you ask me, I also want a bioloid. One of each would be perfect.

That web site lists robonova as having "3 infrared sensors (to judge distances), thermometer, microphone..." which is a little misleading.

My stock robonova didn't include those. There's an infrared sensor but it works with the remote remicon controller. There's a peizo speaker for generating beeps and music, but no mic.

and I decided to take Bioloid..

as you can see, that problem depends on your purpose.

rn1:
more users(good support :))
steel frame(stable, plastic frame of bioloid not be sure)
easily hackable(because of more users)
easier(only to me?)

bioloid:
have good promise(yet rn1 has more users)
mechanical modifyable(but rn1 is just humanoid not other robot)
cheaper
more servos(more DOF!)

i can hack bioloid as same as robonova(example: gyro, remcon, speakhack etc.) and i wanna different robot or machine.
i just start with bioloid, and then i will make full custom robot.

you know that, you cannot participate robocon or robot festival with not bioloid, but also rn1..(just i thought)

Congratulations on your choice. You're right, it depends on your needs. Also, you can build a robot arm, snake, and other robots from the robonova kit, as other kit builders have shown in their postings and on their web sites. I think the bioloid robot dog would be cool. But then I would need 2 kits, one humanoid and one dog. :) Did you place your order? Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I'm going to go with RB-1. I will let you know how it goes!

Thanks again! :D
