Sweet!

When I had my RN rollerskating, or trying to, I actually experimented with the same thing shown in the video of Plen. I had just had new screen doors installed, and had some 9 foot carboard boxes to play around to do this with. Ultimately, the speed my RN achieved rolling down the slope scared me from doing this!!

when RN! lands on his skates, rolls to a stop, holds his arms up and bows, maybe. This still is a +1k$ learning tool. I don't think missing the garbage bag would be to much fun, I've spent to much time waiting for servos just to smoke them for a video. that looks like FUN though.

That's totally fantastic. The videos of RN skating and skateboarding was really cool too! Those rate in the top ten best robonova-1 videos ever made. How about a Tony Hawk 980? :D Has anyone made inline skates for RN or figured out a way to push off on the skates using the feet and legs?

Pushing off is difficult without the hip rotation DOF. I did have some ideas based on when I used to skate when I was younger (a LOT younger :) ) - to get a flying, running start, I would often run on the stoppers on my roller skates. I thought about adding stoppers to RNs feet and using them to push off, which would have worked, but I sadly didn't get around to trying it.

just use oneway bearings on one axle of the skates and yeah, tilt brake with a snubber on the nose. THAT should get some use of the gyros.

Those are really good ideas. There's a lot you can do with the toe stop on roller skates. If the bearings are locked on one skate, RN would mainly be skating on one skate. A ratchet bearing, like the one on a bicycle is a good idea to make RN go forward but not backward. That way, RN could push off and skate foward on both skates. I've been designing an inline skate with the idea but that has some more challenges compared to roller skates which can statically balance.
