Couple question for my recently completed Robonova kit

First, this is a great site, so much information here.

I built my Robonova and I'm using the remocon to do it's overall.bas program. I was expecting the motion to be more fluid than it is. Is it normal to see the pulses in movement? Like when doing a back flip, the legs perform tiny jerks, instead of long fluid movements. I'm assuming this is normal due to the program incrementing small movements in the servos, but I just wanted to make sure.

Also, I can't seem to find a good guide on using RoboBasic. Specifically the catch and play. Like what is "Syncronization" mode? And I can't seem to get those Right Leg -> Left Leg buttons to do much of anything. Any help would be appeciated.

Thanks.

Hey, Welcome to the board and I hope you get alot out of your RN.

Also, I can't seem to find a good guide on using RoboBasic. Specifically the catch and play.

There is only the PDF guide on the CD, else the guys here can help you.

Specifically the catch and play.

Plug in and power up the RN and hit F7 in robobasic. this is what I use for motion capture.
Just check and uncheck the tick boxes for the servos you want to capture. Uncheck a box and the servo moves free. Move it to a new position and recheck the box. Now you can write the captured new positions into your robobasic code by hitting the move insert button for the group that you have altered.

And I can't seem to get those Right Leg -> Left Leg buttons to do much of anything.

Dont use this feature much but...
If you have put the right arm into a good position, instead of trying to duplicate this by hand you can just copy the position of the right arm to the left arm.

Have fun

Marcus.

Marcus, thanks for the info. I was using the catch and play last night, but I think my sights were set a little too high. Needless to say, my RN1 didn't do a hand stand (not a head stand, but a real hand stand).

I saw some of your posts that included code for various moves. Were you ever able to find a site that contains lots of good programs for the RN1? All I've been able to find on the internet are onesy twosy codes here and there but not a good source for lots of cool programs.

Thanks

Chris

I used to listen to music alot, I listened alot and alot and alot. available music became bland for me so I started to make my own music that I liked.

This is what I do with the RN. I just bought it, assembled it and then started learning again. Just put aside a few hours a week to just spend with your robot.

You just have to stand it there and support it with one hand while you check the boxes with the other. I did the "Three Kick Flurry" by just supporting the robot with one hand while using the mouse with the other.

phpBB [media]

You must experiment like an animator and find out how much you can get away with. look at balancing the bot or speeding up moves or even trying to think of a human move and try to get the bot to do it.

Just enjoy what you are doing with your new friend.

Dirtyroboto is correct. I'm not a roboteer by any measure, and after playing about with the supplied moves template program, one does wonder 'what next?'.

I don't get the time to play with my RN1 as I'd like, but great fun can be had with the capture aspect of the software.

I find it hard to hold the RN in a position and capture that pose without some movement... but a little tweaking of the numbers in the code can help here.

It's surprising, too, how easily RN falls over due to the inertia/momentum that no 2d animator has to deal with. Again, I like the challenge this presents - keeping RN upright during a complicated move.

Also - and this might be obvious - but I labeled all my servo's and servo groups (A, B, C, D) making capturing the position of a single servo that much easier.

Currently, I'm trying to get RN to climb stairs. Asimo can do it, so why not RN? (Apart from the fact Asimo cost a few million dollars to develop...)

Enjoy your RN and don't be too disheartened when things don't turn out how you expect.

Dirtroboto,
I love that 3 kick flurry move. Would it be inappropriate to ask you to share your code for that subroutine? That move would really help me kick my friend's RN-1's a** when we finally do battle
