For an internal house robot platform that you could use for security and other things I would suggest a wheeled platform not bi-pedal.
You should be able to create a very good house rembot using wheels and not legs right now. When you bring legs into the design you have to dedicate alot of time and effort in just making the bot walk, let alone design navigation software.
