I've uploaded a 1:1 template for them:

Have fun. :)

These are my latest attempts at making grippers for RN: (Eiichiro Morinaga inspired)
Image

I have integrated an FSR under the thumb, to measure gripping force:

Image

The fingers are made of 2mm carbon fibre, cut out using a Roland Modela MDX-20). The thumb is made from a standard RN gauntlet, given to me by Sonic...Thanks.

I chose the shape to approximate that of the original RN "Hand", so the standard moves are unaffected.....Note I may change the thumb design again.

I love it novaOne, you must ave been busy over the holidays with this and the screen. Did you get the idea from my book showing the robot "Metal". have you got a Roland Modela MDX-20 or access to one. It looks pritty sexy, you could make some nice things out of it.

Thanks Bren,
have you got a Roland Modela MDX-20

My boss let me borrow it over the holidays, it has its limitations (ie it still uses stepper motors so you have to keep the feed rate low), but invaluable for this kind of thing.

They are similar to Eiichiro Morinaga's Metallic Fighter.....but much smaller.

you must ave been busy over the holidays with this

Yep, but you ain't seen nothing yet........if all goes well

Your grippers are impressive NovaOne. You should start producing and selling them, they are really nice.

Hi NovaOne

I'm been looking at the Roland Modela MDX-15. for the money it looks really sexy. just a couple of question as I've been looking for a machie like this for some time.

1) could it machine aluminum blocks.

2) make decent PCB boards, say 0.4mm tracks.

3) Would you recommend one.

I also got the pressure sensors today so will try them out over the weekend.

No, they are too slow you would need a real cnc milling machine.

2) make decent PCB boards, say 0.4mm tracks.

Yes, just about ...with practice. (don't use fibre glass boards)

3) Would you recommend one.

That depends, they are suitable for one off prototype work, but not suitable for manufacturing with. They can be invaluable, I like the MDX-20, but it is limited and dated. The seem to use printer/plotter technology ie open loop stepper motors, RS232 interface virtually no on board buffer or intelligence. In fact there is really not much to them, I don't know how they justify the price.

I realise this isn't in the same quality league but have you seen this:
http://www.elektor-electronics.co.uk/extra/profiler-milling-machine-from-a-kit.91274.lynkx

I have no idea what the PCBs it produces are like?

PS I'll have another go with my FSR's on Sunday and post my results.

Cheers for the reply.

The link looks rather expensive as I found a company offering the Roland for $3,000. will carry on looking for something. I want one for making prototypes and PCB's. I have thought about building one but with out one I can't build one so it's the chicken and the egg problem.
