i just ordered my first humaniod robot a couple days ago... it should be here tomorrow and im pretty excited... i have a bunch of parts on my table already just waiting to be put on it... i have been studying the instructions for 3 days now and i think i can almost put it together without them now!!!
so my question is, is the body hollow between the shoulder servos? and would a battery back (4"x1.25" x.5") fit from the stock battery holder up into that space? or, if a servo is added for the head, would it fit down between the shoulders???

thanks for teh help...

I just received my Robonova last night and stayed up pretty late putting a few things together and then this afternoon some more stuff. Make sure you pay attention to the servo orientation for the left and right legs. It can be tricky.

I can't answer your question about the body cavity just yet cause I am not to the section. Tomorrow for sure though.

Only thing I've done so far is replace all the self tapping screw with some 2x4mm pan head screws. I also used them on all the bracket attachments. Just looks cleaner.

I also have two of the defacto standard GWS gyros and two Futaba rate gyros I want to try out.

Plus a ton more ideas. Just need more time and money. :D

i agree with that!!!! i have a couple Century Helicopter gyros that i want to add to it, a bunch of servos, RC reciever, 2axis tilt sensor, wireless video camera and some other small stuff to try out.

i have heard that the standard battery weighs about 4oz, and i have a 2 cell lipo battery that looks like it might fit into that hole.. it would be nice if it will fit, cause its rated at 2100mAh and it weighs 3.2oz....
i am getting really excited though, i hope it gets here tomorrow and i dont have to wait all weekend for it... i have even built the battery monitoring circuit so i can just plug it in when it get here

My Robonova was one of the most exciting assembly projects ever! You'll have to decide what to put in the space, battery or head servo. I've seen one of those GWS servos (NARO/STD) from Taiwan. It's so small, maybe you could fit two in there. Although I'd still recommend going with Hitec digital servos to maintain the software function.

Good point about continuing to use the Hitec servos. Being able to maintain the software functionality and integrity is quite important. At least for consistancy. :)

I did get some more assembly done on mine last night. It is now beginning to at least look like all the pictures of being a humanoid.

Current Robonova trend for extra cells is to mount them in the feet. The free space in the torso is too valuble to waste.

Oh man, I am so sorry. I know what a bummer it is to have your heart set on something and then for unbeknownst reasons, it just don't happen.

Me and A.M.O.S. reach and feel you pain and disappoinment. :(

If there's a small delay in RN delivery, think of it this way - it will give you more time to look over the many posts in this forum and learn a lot more about Rovonova, modifications, etc. It could time well worth spending. Plus, there's threads posted about assembly, software, and operating that would be very helpful. That said, it's also great fun to see what others are working on.

Dirty is correct about the trend currently to put cells into the feet. However, the latest threads are now talking about the future and putting power sources in the middle, approximately chest area, to further hone COG - center of gravity, and to achieve greater realization of the humanoid concept.

This would make a humanoid without heavy clutzy feet, lessen the strain on the leg servo joints, increase the "ability" to do kicks and Marital Arts, and potentially increase the chances of either winning or placing in RoboOne contests.

I believe this is the latest consideration by robotics expert Matt Bauer who has gone through several amazing transformations with his original Robonova. Matt has a new website up at http://www.bauerindependents.com/

i would like to keep the battery in the chest area too... i like my robots to look clean and i dont like the "bulky" feet. if this battery will fit, it will still lighten the overall weight by a small amount, and double the runtime...

i have a century gyro that i hope will work. its tiny and will probably be mounted on the shoulder..

if i use the lipo battery, i wont need a seperate battery for the wireless camera, and its just a tiny pinhole one so it shouldnt take up much space either. i guess we will see late tuesday night after its put together!!!

Mitchell, I'm very interested in seeing the results, especially with the battery type and placement, the pinhole camera, and the wireless setup. Would love to see some pics!

I think you'll know rather quick about the gyro. If it tunes, you've got a winner!

ITS HERE!!! im pretty excited about it!!! :D in about 2 hours last night, i have built the legs, arms and shoulders... tonight i should be able to get the torso built, and i will let you know if that battery fits..

so hes built!!! i plugged in the charger and got a green light about 10 minutes later, so i tired him, and he did one cartwheel then stopped... i tried charging the battery again and it only charged for about 5 minutes, so i stuck it back in him, and he fell over almost instantly. i plugged the battery into my Triton charger, and it was down around 4V.... i cycled it a couple times and on average now its taking close to 1100mAh!!!

im also having some issues with robobasic, but im pretty sure its cause this machine in running vista... i cannot open or create files, and i cant open the help files.

i guess i will try it tomorrow on XP.....
