Phew! Busy, busy, busy... Lots of stuff going on so I haven't been able to visit for some time now... Hopefully I'll be able to catch up on posts soon and see what's been going on in here. In the meantime, just wanted to let any interested parties know that we have Dual-Knee Joint Kits (only three as of now) for sale! AND... Grip Kits are 10% off.

I don't mean to spew out an ad and run, but I've gotta' get back to work.

Talk to ya guys and gals later! :)

I'd like to see a photo showing the complete Robonova standing up with the new double knee joints installed, along with a video of some walking.

This is very interesting, and I read how they were using the double knee joints for faster movements in the contests.

How does this change the walking routines? Does RN need to be reprogrammed? More stable or less stable?

I'd like to see a photo showing the complete Robonova standing up with the new double knee joints installed, along with a video of some walking.

I've gotten a couple requests asking the same. Sorry I didn't have it all prepared to begin with. I'll have a video up demo-ing them real soon.

How does this change the walking routines? Does RN need to be reprogrammed? More stable or less stable?

Yes, by adding two additional servos to the leg the RN-1's walk routine would need to be changed.

His stability fluctuates as the leg height increases and decreases. At a full squat, there is no change - nor is there any measurable difference while in mid-squat (where the leg height is equal to a standard RN-1's). Only when the leg is fully extended can you tell a difference. However, the fully extended leg is seldom used while walking. The extra length is beneficial when attacking and such. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to write a walk gait... the video should help give you an idea of the performance enhancements and any stability issues.

Here's the video....

Bauermech, your new double knee joints for Robonova are spectacular and brilliant! The video shows new functions never seen before. It's amazing that RN can now leap off the floor with both feet. The added height is very impressive in a humanoid. The additional speed will enable lots of new movements. Plus all this greatly increases the value of RNs. Thank you for this remarkable work of engineering and making it so successful. We look forward to seeing your new walking routines and video.

 Oh nuts! You're right! I used the "buy it now" buttons instead of the shopping cart feature. I'll get that fixed this afternoon on my lunch break. Sorry about that.

:D Okay, all has been corrected - our store should operate correctly from here on out.

We only have three Dual-Knee Joint kits left that are hard-coat anodized black. The remaining will all brushed aluminum - until we get another shipment off to the anodization plant that is.

...still interested in seeing a video where RN is walking with the new knees in place. Ok, so there are at least 3 guys that could show the results. :-)

If you're asking me then I'd say yes, you should order them

All joking aside, nobody needs to modify their Robonova. They work pretty well on their own. However, whether or not you feel your robot would be better off with add-on kits/mods depends on what you expect to get out of it. Out of the box, the RN-1 can't communicate w/ a cell phone, know how far he is from a wall, grab stuff, jump, side-step in arcs, pan his head, etc. There are several different types of mods you can add... the grip and knee kits are just a couple of the structural ones. Some people find making their own mods from scratch is just as easy as buying a set. For others there simply isn't enough time in the day, or they may not have the resources for undertaking a project like that. Either way, buying or fabricating your own - enhancing your RN-1’s abilities can be quite a good learning experience... as well as being fun.

It is quite glamorous to see those new knees so I don't doubt Chocobots rush to get hands on a set. :-) It may be prudent to check out your RN for a while and run it through all the paces, just to know that everything is working good, and get some good solid understanding of handling the motions, either with programming and/or the capture features.

I still have my stock RN and plan to do as much as possible in stock mode so to speak... then go with grippers, knees, arm add ons, a rotational head, torso add on, sonar, gyros, accelerometer, RC, camera, bluetooth, speech, LCD, CAM, sound recognition, infrared, tactile sensors, more LEDs, heat sinks, several LIPOs, pack add-on, shoes, hat, and pants, and electrodynamic-hyperconceptual-quantum-spacetime- phased-floctobomometer. ;-)

GRIP KIT SUPER SALE - click here!
We're letting ten of our grip kits go for an ultra-low price - in order to get around extra fundage for RoboGames and still be able to begin the production of newer great stuff. Thanks :!:
