Simple 18 DOF robonova

Hi all,

I have just added hips rotation capabilities to my robot. I have just added tow HSR5498SG between the tow hips brackets by drilling four holes and directly fixing the servos on the bracket. It seems to work fine, the robot is still well balanced but can't perform all the basic move. Walking is not working fine as the gap between legs is larger but i'll try to improve it by adding hips movement..

I like what you are doing, I'm a few Sunday afternoons away (if all goes well ) from getting hip rotation on my RN.

How are you finding the HSR-5498SG's, are they up to the job?. I have two ready to fit but, I was wondering if they would be better utilized swapping them with with 8498's from the legs?

Is there anyway you could bring the legs closer together, having to reprogram stock moves sounds like a real bind

Could you post a more close up picture and maybe a video, please.

The HSR-5498SG seems to be perfect for hips rotation but i think that they also would be perfect replacing the other legs servo as they are more accurate. Today i have worked on the servo setting, and i modified the hardware setting by modifying the bracket position on the servo horn. My robonova is now more stable but the basic servo seems to be a little weak to handle the extras weight and height. I am soon gonna replace the stock battery with lipo to try to decrease the weight, and when i ll have a little more money, i'll replace the basic ankle and knee servo with HSR-5498SG.

I have finally replaced the stock battery with a lipo + regulator. The regulator i've found can provide up to 8 amps, and you can connect tow batteries to it. This regulator is a bit big as i has a big blue heatsink, but it can fit on robot chest. I also added a voltage monito on the chest to watch the battery level.

Any problems with your LiPo/Regulator so far?

Are you able to use the low current blink with the 'bot too?

The regulator is doing very well, in fact it is far better than the stock battery as it maintain a constant 6v power input, so servos as the same torque and same speed all along the run. I have craeted my first 18DOF motion today. I had many difficulties creating this move as it implies balance change.

What's the difference between the HSR5498SG servo and the stock robonova servo?

The main difference is the torque, but this servo also has the advantage to have metal gears. This servo mounting wouldn't have been possible without this servo as the stock servo has a plastic horn which would have been too weak.

Where did you get the meter from? I've been looking for a small prebuilt tidy looking one like your one

I finally found the indicator you used. I've posted instructions on my blog on how to change the indicator from a dot-dot indicator into a full bar indicator.

BTW, how do you find the regulator? Is 8A enough to power the robot through high current moves like getting up or walking?

No problem with the regulator sor far. The robot is more stable as there is no voltage drop when there is Amp peaks. The voltage is also more stable along time not like with the stock battery. The regulator is little too heavy (big heatsink) but it doesn' affect the performance has the battery is lighter, just someminor changes to the balance.
