Big Grippers

Till now I've used Matt grippers but the application I have in mind requires large grippers, so I went for something like this:

http://www.lynxmotion.com/Product.aspx?productID=438&CategoryID=88

Now my question is: will the HSR 8498 hold on to these grippers without breaking?

Also, can I use a less expensive servo inside the gripper such as the HS-422 or a similar servo to cut down on costs. (the objects that the robot needs to collect are not heavy).

Those are big grippers!

The HSR8498 should be easily up to the job; Lexan's a lightweight material. It might create some interesting balance issues though with the weight of the servos.

The HS422 should do the job as long as the mechanical fit is ok, you would lose the feedback mechanism though which could be used to determine if you've gripped an object or not.

feedback for me is important in fact I already do it with the HSR 8498 using Matt grippers, so I'll stick to HS 5475HB.

Thanks for your feedback.

HS5475 is digital, but it does not have position feedback or HMI either

Only the HS8498HB, HSR5990TG, HSR5980SG, and the HSR5498SG have position feedback and HMI.

The 5980 or 5990 might fit, but you should check with Jim Frye at Lynxmotion. They are both powerful and expensive.

A single HSR5990TG can hold your wallet open continously for weeks, and a full humaniod built from them can hold your bank manager on the ceiling.

Just curious, what did you have in mind to pick up? Are they big enough for beer cans?

I have no idea how big they are but I need them to make him pick up small containers. Matt grippers have wonderful design but are very limiting. And, I also want to see how they fit! when I install them I will post some pictures (some two weeks more).
