Robonova initial setup

I am going through some of the early teething issues with my RN-1. The initial setup is quite tricky to get right.

Problems:

* "Meaty" has a bit of a problem walking in a straight line. No...I did not take him to the pub with me last night. He seems to prefer a "leftward" attitude (nothing to do with Tony Blair) and this is quite frustrating

* Meaty also has a tendency to fall over backwards I really need to address this issue. Under the initial program...when I press button 3,4,0 on the remote...all three moves cause meaty to fall over backwards. Now I understand this requires tuning the hip servos so that he is bent forward slightly...but is this the only reason?

* the zero settings are hard to setup accurately

* Anyone tried working the RN-1 on a wood surface? My house is either carpet or wood...not much choice of material in here :(

back to punching holes in my neighbors cat ;)

Love "Meaty" and his moves...but I need to get sorted out with the Robobasic before things get boring.

I can say for the zero set up, i know my RN-1 at 100% at the hips was not standing straight so I've adjusted them down to left at 96 and right at 98. after doing this he seemed to be stable, when walking

Hi

I have all wood floors in most of my house and he performs better on these than on the carpeted areas if that helps. All the wood floors have water based varnish over them so they are pretty smooth and don 't offer too much friction.

Stability from my perspective, is the ability to perform all the moves in the templates folder without falling over etc. I believe a weak battery can also cause problems so I am going to charge him up before attempting this once more...

If I can manage this - then the hacking can begin.

The first few moves I want to perform:

* Steps
* Vaulting over a chest high obstacle

gyro and wireless camera should be here next week - but I need to exploit meaty fully before installing any additional hardware...just to get the most out of him.

UPDATE:

Yup - weak batteries were the cause of the problems...The battery doesnt last long at all does it? 30 minutes tops?!? Need a bigger battery for this guy...surely...

Now I can do all the movements with full stability. I will still tweak the posture over time for ultimate stability - right now I am just happy that everything is working well and the platform is ready to receive add-ons.

Robobasic coding is my next challenge. The last time I programmed a computer was when I was in high school almost 15 years back. Since then I have been programming network devices...but the manual for Robobasic was still pretty daunting...HOW TO REMEMBER ALL THOSE COMMANDS :)

I agree. That's why I did not bother programming it until only yesterday. Actually, I just copy and paste all the sequences of movement which I thought is cool so that he could walk longer and taking a rest then walk again with sidestep dancing until he take that flight. But beyond that I have to do more study of roboBasic. My friends are already overwhelmed by what it can do. I thought it would be much better if we could have RN-1 dance like the one on Saturday Night Live!
