RN Legs

I am considering getting a Robonova, but I notice that the Bioloid and some of the other Robo-One 'bots have an extra DOF in the hip that allows the legs to turn outward making walking in a circle easier. Is the lack of this DOF in RN a problem?

I guess someone is already looking at an upgrade for this to go with the Grippers!

I think this can be temporarily overcome with a couple of servos and brackets to rotate the ankle. Rotating at the hip is possible - but difficult.

This is the reason why I was considering the Bioloid - BUT - the plastic eventually put me off to a "wait and watch" approach.

I havent yet come to a point where I miss this DOF...but I can think of several applications to have that feature :(

RN legs and Bioloid

Didn't the networked servos on Bioloid win you over

The plastic certainly doesn't look as good as RN's nice anodised parts. The Robotis Cycloid II has everything going for it, but a $12k price tag.

I'm getting the Bioloid also, but for fighting the RN-1. lol. yeah, I can't wait to see a hip upgrade. If i dont see one soon, I will take Gsferrari's approach and hack one out myself.

I also noticed this. The bioloid has lots of cool features, i think this may make it rather dificult to hack. If you are new to robotics i would get the bioloid, but if your have been customising your own robots you will quickly get fustrated with what you cant do with the biodloid. A suspect it wont be long until a kit is out to solve this problem on the RN-1 anyway.

Oh, I'm sure there will be a upgrade kit for RN-1. I'm looking forward to the Bioloid for my kid (16). Then the battle begins (lol)
