It's now possible to use the USB UIRT method of controlling robots. This is accomplished on the i-SOBOT humanoid with RoboDance. This method is a perfect candidate for controlling Robonova, wireless by computer. Full programming is still available using scripting and writing various motion routines.

I've used USB-UIRT with my first robot - Robosapien V2, it is really powerful, you can control your robot from quite a long distance, but in that case I used it as a one way communication.

Improving the distance is one great feature of this method of IR wireless, as you discovered. The other is, you can control multiple robots with the right hardware! This is good for games like soccer.
