Hi all,

I am absolutely amazed at the way things have moved on with Biped robots !!! and I love this ROBONOVA - so much so I'm figuring out if I can afford one this month ;)

I used to play around with www.solarbotics.com kits when i was a kid, and have been waiting patiently for technology to progress enough so that these things were viable cost wise.

couple of questions I have -

The regulator mod to bring it down to 3v - is this pretty easy to do ? I'm a little rusty with a soldering iron.

The bluetooth (BlueSMiRF) that everyone is talking about - which module do you use ?
I found this one on the www.sparkfun.com site :

What is the difference with the GWS PG-03 Gyro and the one on the german site (PK3) ? is it just a resolution thing?

And lastly what Accelerometers are people using ? have people got theirs from the sparkfun site if so which one?

I'm in London so at the moment I'm trying to find places over here I can get hold of these components - I've had a good search on ebay and can source the PG-03 GYRO and Futaba RX pretty easily.

I can't wait to get hold of ROBONOVA

Keep up the good work folks

Ross

Buy, Buy, Buy, you wont regret it.. the Sparkfun sells a v5 BT module no need to step it down, they also sell Accelerometers which run at v5 also. the following thread below has the diagram's and part numbers.

The GWS PG-03, the Multiplex Piezo Gyro PK 3, the Simprop SPG-05, the Micro Piezo Gyro from Acroname, etc. are all just the same.
It's one of the most common mini-gyros out there.

For the Bluetooth-SMIRF-Module look in the Bluetooth-thread down below in this category.

The BlueSmirf I purchased from Sparkfun was the "basic" (the one you have pictured) As Morbeious pointed out, it falls within the operating voltage range for the Robonova, and it works great!

cool, i might add that to my list of things to get with it then.

What is the best combination of :

Accelerometers
Gyro
Tilt switch

Is it necessary to have all of these when your after great forward & sideways balance along with knowing when he's on his back or front ?

tilt sensor to tell which side he is leaning/falling
gyro - to prevent falling
accellero - to sense motion as a vector - great for enhancing the mobility

I would use accellerometer on the extremities (hands and legs)

two single axis gyros or a single dual axis gyro.

1 tilt sensor

Start with the tilt sensor, add the gyro and then study how the accellero can be used for best results.

Thanks for the tips guys,

out of interest which version of the ADXL32x Series Accelerometers are you buying -
ADXL320 (+/- 5g)
ADXL321 (+/- 18g)
ADXL322 (+/-2g)

I wonder when Hitec are coming out with some official sensors ??
